Nancy, that's a valid concern. I know that I crashed big time when I did GAPS. I learned the hard way that if your adrenals are compromised it is NOT good to do a major cleanse or elimination diet (unless a more serious condition warrants it). Especially when we start eliminating whole food groups (carbs, or in the case of GAPS, grains which severely limited the carbs). I am slowly approaching eliminating some less healthy choices from my eating. Not that I eat junk all the time but I can definitely say I've gotten too attached to sweets over the past year! Between dealing with my hubby's open heart surgery last year and menopause, I knew I just couldn't stress over food. I feel in a much better place emotionally and with my adrenals to start addressing my eating again--but no more throwing out a bunch at once! I do NOT want to go down that road again!

Sorry to butt in--I know nothing about the chi machine but saw your comment here and wanted to concur--you are wise to cleanse gently!

Well, there are many ways to cleanse and many way to detox... In fact, there was someone contacting me about cleanses last year around this time. Before we start, I have to figure out what else is problematic and what stage of health she was at. After a few conversations of all her health conditions, she could not and did not do what she first ask, she did a vegetable diet with yeast cleansing herbs and adding herbs that heals the guts first for her colitis. That is Dr. Christopher's yeast overgrowth and leaky guts protocol.

She has been cleansing away with different protocols after 2 round of Dr. C healed her colitis (that was going for a few years). Funny thing was things that she never mentioned and never was thinking about reversing was reversed with cleanses and nutrition.

Finally, after almost a whole year, she was ready to do the pineapple cleanse.

First thing first, whether you do a cleanse or not, fix the leaky guts and yeast overgrowth if there is a hints of you even would be having yeast overgrowth. Simply, being a woman is a risk factor for yeast overgrowth. The female hormone added to stress (who does not have it after 20) would be perfect environment for yeast. Taking anti-biotics for a stretch of time is another risk. Basically, perimenopause is another risk factor.

If the guts is leaky, every time to cleanse and flush, you get detox flu. Everytime cut sugar, the yeast dies off, you get detox flu. No matter what expensive herbs or supplement you take, it is down the drain because of leaky guts. I consider fixing the gust the utmost important... The body will cleanse itself slowly when we are healthy and have enough nutrients and movements.

GAPS, after studying it for a while, and as described by many experts on Ketogenic diets, is a ketogenic diet. When done right, gaps can heal a lot of things. However, having a toxic storage already, it is tough for the first beginning die off when switching from carb as primary fuel to fat as primary fuel. The cleansing the body is going thru for killing of yeast is often unbearable when there is not enough enzyme is taken.

Understanding this and have done various cleanse for a few years now, colon cleanse is by minimum the bare minimum everyone should do before taking on any cleanses or any detox diet like GAPS.

I did not do GAPS as watching Trisch's whole family going thru the detox was enough to scare to off. I did the Dr. C protocol 5 years ago to get rid of my yeast overgrowth and leaky guts (from bad dental cleanup of silver fillings). Of course, why just fix leaky guts, cleanse the whole body too, right?

Cleanses and Fasts are controversial, but when done right, they are powerful and effective. Problem is people jumping into without guidance and not prepared to have remedies ready for things go wrong. Basically, a personal detox coach is needed for any complicated situation.

I've never thought I had leaky gut, but I do seem to have some food sensitivities, which makes me think I probably do. Is there a book about Dr. C.'s protocol? I've poked around on line, and there are things to buy, but I think I need more guidance than that. I would read a book if I could find one.

Thanks for confirming what I have suspected, Trisch. An abundance of counselors.... it's good to hear from several people.

Thank you. How do you find all this stuff and know how much to take? It is not that evident from his website - maybe there is a book. Did you go to the HFS to find all the herbs and things?

You can buy most of the things or all the things on Amazon. I bought all the herbs capsules on Amazon... For the Slippery Elms and Licorice root powder, I bought on internet at Mountain Rose. The slippery elms and licorice root is like 70% to 30% ratio. If you get 2 lbs of slippery elms and 1 lb of licorice root powder, that should be quite sufficient.

I thought it was pretty clear on the instructions from the linked article:

"First procedure: On the first two days consume two quarts of a decoction of Black Walnut and Pau d’ arco (one quart each day). This is made by simmering the herbs in water for twenty minutes at the rate of one tablespoon of the combined herbs (equal parts) per cup of water. An easier alternative would be to take five capsules five times a day of Dr. Christopher’s Intestinal Sweep Formula. This procedure will kill off the yeast, which on other programs can make you feel very nauseous. This nauseous feeling is avoided by taking plant-based digestive enzymes in large amounts (triple the stated dosages on the label) and flushing out with Dr. Christopher’s Lower Bowel formula during these first two days.

NOTES: The Lower Bowel formula can be taken the whole time if needed. You should have 3 bowels movements a day and the amount of Lower Bowel taken is the amount needed to give you 3 bowel movements a day. It is most important during that first procedure so that the body is eliminating the yeast etc.

Udo’s Choice has plant-based digestive enzymes, which are available at most herb shops, including Dr. Christopher’s Herb Shop online.

Second procedure: For the next 14 days, take five capsules five times per day of Dr. Christopher’s Soothing Digestion formula, or one tablespoon of slippery elm gruel five times a day. Either of these methods will coat, soothe and heal the lesions in the intestinal wall. (You can continue to take the Intestinal Sweep Formula 2 capsules 3 times a day during this time.)

Third procedure: For the next two days repeat the first procedure.

Fourth procedure: Take copious (triple the stated dosages on the label) amounts of multi-strain Pro-biotics to re-establish the flora. Further aids would be to eat raw sauerkraut, Kim Chi, raw apple cider vinegar, Rejuvelac, or miso in large amounts, which are the exact foods to stay away from if you have leaky gut syndrome, yet they rebuild the flora once the leaky gut is healed.

NOTES: Udo’s Choice has Pro-biotics, which are available at most herb shops, including Dr. Christopher’s Herb Shop online.

The pro-biotics need to be taken for about a week to rebuild the flora.

Note: It is absolutely essential that you do not feed the yeast during this procedure. Therefore, do not consume any sugar or alcohol in any form. This includes all dairy, grains, and fruit. So enjoy twenty days of a wonderful vegetable, nuts, seeds and sprouted legume diet; thus insuring a healthy life, free of Systemic Yeast Overgrowth."
