    Just wanted to start a thread with a few walking tips. I'll post a few and then anyone else can feel free to add their tips.

    As we continue to walk and discover new tips I'm hoping this thread will continue to grow.

    1. My first tip would be to build up slowly. This will help you stack the deck in favor of success.

    2. Second, have a back up plan. Weather happens, life happens, work happens. A back up plan helps to keep your program moving ahead even when you can't. It can be as simple as planning a mall walk (if you have a mall) or subbing a stealth walk at work or while you shop. Or using a walking video or the WSWO or just doing PBS and several sets of hoe downs throughout the day.

    3. Don't forget the sunscreen, brimmed hat and bug repellant (if you walk in on the wild side <img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle> ) There's nothing worse than being a training field for a pack of bugs while trying to get your own workout!

    4. Drink some water before and after and if your walk will take longer than an hour take water with you. As little as 2% dehydration will result in decreased performance and make you lose that wonderful walking high.
