The Power of "Not Free" Kickouts!

    03-12-2013, 05:41 PM

If you're new to T-Tapp or new to the forums and don't have MORE 2, Menopause Management or Senior Fit, this may be a new term for you.

Kickouts are wonderful as you can get some relief for those tired legs holding T-Tapp stance--as well as reset your form between moves! They are also great to "kick away" inflammation, making them fantastic for those with adrenal, thyroid and other health issues.

But what are "Not Free" Kickouts?

Not free kickouts are activated kickouts. In other words, they are no longer a rest-type move! For these kickouts you keep knees bent and KLT at all times, core is curled and activated and ribs are up. You are reaching downward in a V and I mean r-e-a-c-h-i-n-g. Palms face forward. Fingers pressed together in a mitten hand and stretching thumbs. This helps activation all the way up your back (a nice stretch!). Now comes the coordinating hard part--as you kick, the standing leg's knee will remain bent and KLT!

Now let's define "kick". This is not "ahhh--nice wimpy kick". This is kicking a soccer ball--yet not scoring! We want purposeful kicking without overdoing it. We are after kicking away inflammation--not creating more!

    So--are you ready?

    Bend those knees
Belly button up and back to spine/Tuck buns under and gently tighten
    Ribs up
    Knees to little toe
Reach down and away from your body with your arms in an inverted V
    Palms forward
Press fingers together in a mitten hand
Stretch thumbs (90 degree angle to the hand)
Reach away with those arms (are your palms forward?)

    Now--

    Keep standing knee bent
    Core curled and ribs up!
Kick purposefully for 8 (4 each leg, alternating sides)
Don't bobble like a penguin! Tighten the core!
(Did you keep your standing leg bent?and KLT?)

    For the second part--

You are lifting the knee, aiming for shoulder but don't let that foot come in--keep ankle away in alignment with the knee and toes pointed for tummy. Use your tummy to lift that leg--try to lift waist high but focus on tummy doing the lifting (my knee doesn't go to my waist when I'm really focused on core lifting!). Don't forget to keep your core curled! Ribs up! KLT!

    4 lift touches--2 each leg.

Then you can hunch forward and inhale, come back exhale and shake it all out!

Just doing that throughout the day can help kick away inflammation, fatigue, clear cobwebs from the brain and give you a nice stretching break from your work-- especially if you sit at a computer a lot!

    Trisch,

This is a GREAT explanation! Thanks! Just to be clear, ladies, you can do this in between all the moves. In the HHMM, MORE 02 and SF, she has you do the kick outs in between the moves and grab some water. It makes an incredible difference! So pause your player, kick out, drink water ("hydration is important for fat burning") and watch your body respond!
    Blessings,

    Mary Ellen (MEK)

Thanks Trisch for all the tips! I must admit I felt silly and probably looked even sillier kicking out this way but what a difference it made!

    Great idea, Elizabeth!

LOL upupandaway! When we had our Senior Fit written test, Teresa joked she could just "see" us getting up from the computer and going through a move to answer some of the questions! Glad you tried it!

I'm finding I feel SO good just doing this throughout the day!

One more point of activation from Senior Fit...head up like someone is pulling it to the ceiling but make sure your chin is level and back. I love the feeling of my "giraffe" neck. I keep hoping maybe it will make me taller (at 4'10" I need some extra height!) or atleast get rid of my turkey neck.

I have never felt the knee lifts in my tummy like I do now with Senior Fit.

      Now I'm the one misunderstanding!

But yes, the not free kickouts was what I was referring to - the original post in this thread.

So sorry for the confusion, Kelela! No, you don't need to bend over at all. You do, however, keep the knees bent, even while kicking (the knee supporting you will stay bent and KLT). Now, when you "hunch/curl" you will curl forward, but it's not really bending over, either. HTH!
