    Hi, everybody! I'm back!

I just deleted my Facebook account, so I'll be keeping up with all my T-Tapp friends here, again. I just got tired of it.

So, question for the homeschooling moms, here... Are you teaching your kids a foreign language? I know that the laws vary from state to state, but I was just wondering if you are, and what program you're using. I've heard good things about Rosetta Stone. Any input? Any other suggestions?

I'm thinking about starting my little one soon. My husband is afraid it will just confuse him, but when I taught preschool, I had some children his age who were raised in bilingual homes, and it wasn't a problem for them.

Also, I'm torn between Spanish, French, or Italian. Obviously, Spanish would be the most useful, but French is the one I'm most familiar with, since I took it in high school and college. I used to be pretty fluent, and I'm sure that it would come flooding back to me once I expose myself to it again. At any rate, I think it would be the easiest of the three to teach.

And then, there's Italian. It's even less useful than French, but it's the one I'm leaning toward the most. My husband's grandparents were from Italy, and his dad, although born here, is fluent in Italian, but it got lost on my Americanized husband. He doesn't speak a single word of it. I just think it would be nice for my son to be able to speak his ancestral tongue.

Gina, I'm no help. I think our spanish lessons lasted one...maybe two sessions. I have enough just to get to the basics with my boys. Good luck with it all! I def. wouldn't stress over any of schooling too early. I do know someone that raised her 3 children from birth bilingually. She learned spanish along with them. She and the kids are fluent in Spanish now. But...it doesn't make sense to me. (what she's done...not the language. ) They understand spanish better then English yet they live in an english world. Their family does not speak spanish...their dad barely understands it. I say something to them and they look to their mom for translation. They have difficulty with school materials. She had to take them out of the bi-lingual school they were in and has had a hard time transitioning them with other materials. I mean, its awesome they know spanish so well but they are divided. I realize this is more extreme then you are talking about but it just popped into my mind and thought I'd share a result of someone going way over zealous...of course, that's my opinion and I have kept that one to myself until now. Each to his own.

Hi Tracy! Yay on your dd!!

Thanks for the prayers! I am so sore today. My poor goats are still out there waiting for me. No gumption to get out there. Lino fixed me up yesterday. I was going downhill very fast. The hoofs had done a number on my colon and pushed my small intestine up into my ribcage. I was extremely short of breath (last trimester style), output issues, and very lightheaded and couldn't grasp words. By the time I got to Lino I was bloated up incredibly and was loosing my voice due to the pressure on my lungs and diaphragm. My husbands company is looking at buyers and I do not know what I would do if I have to leave Lino! (PLEASE DO NOT MENTION -in any way- WHAT I JUST TYPED ON FB!!) I believe I'd have to live in a glass room...oy! He told me I'm going to go through a lot of stuff in the next few days. I can feel the pain and stiffness traveling. I'm currently loading up on arnica!

Gina, will miss you on fb but I understand!

I know I'm missing stuff. Forgive me...I'm still regaining control of my thought processes!

Oh Rose! Prayers on several fronts! I hope everything shifts back to where it belongs quickly without too much more trouble! And YOWZA on dh's company, etc. You made a teeny mention to that the other day and I wondered. God knows, right??? HUGS!!!

Hi Tracy!!! So glad to hear about your dd!

Hi Gina!! It's great to "see" you! My 15 yo asked me this morning about whether or not we were supposed to do a foreign language. It's on the "elective" list for our state and I just am totally not interested in fitting that in! Sorry--I'm not much help.

Had a good dentist appointment with the kids...at least no one needs to go back for fillings but here is the breakdown:
15 yo has a wisdom tooth hung up on another tooth. (I took our 18 yo for a consult a few months ago to a surgeon that kept touching her shoulder and her knee. When asked if she would like novocaine or be put under, she said novocaine as she was completely uncomfortable being put under with this dr. We had a 2nd opinion done and this one was much more conservative and saw no issues of concern. So we shall take 15 yo to this guy!)
14 yo has 7 mini cavities due to his "gum habit". They want him swishing with fluoride every day.
12 yo has 5-6 mini cavities due to his "soda habit". Same as above. I'm thinking dh will be more likely to back me up when I say NO!!!!
10 yo apparently has NO bone under her 2 bottom front teeth!!! Not sure what in the world will happen there. The dentist tends to be a bit of an "alarmist" but I don't want to discount her concerns...especially in this case. (Alarmist in that the wisdom teeth MUST be pulled before they are a problem. 14 yo might want braces to pull his top teeth together to eliminate the teeny gap...good grief! He is still growing and will be having more teeth come in!!! I guess we are supposed to have "perfect" teeth!) I asked our dentist to call our orthodontist (she was recommending someone else). We feel our ortho is conservative, reasonable, and not after the all-mighty dollar. One thought is that with braces they could pull the top and bottom teeth more to the front...as teeth move, bone grows. Another thought is that she is only 10 1/2 and she could be growing more...so bone will grow. She has no gum line there as there isn't anything to attach to. Sigh--a good knock from a sibling and they could "fly right out", according to dentist. Her teeth are so perfectly straight with such a nice even roundedness.

Okay---heat index is supposed to be 100 for the next 3 days. Will be a little hard to take after the perfect, humidity free days we have had! Oh well...it's New England!! LOL

    Have a great day, everyone!

Yikes to swishing with fluoride!!!! YUCK! I'd try Natural Dentist Mouth and Gum Therapy first. Also, if he really likes chewing gum, get him a good xylitol gum (not the stuff at Wal-Mart and in the stores). Epic Dental and Xlear have good brands. I think the Xlear brand might be in stores, but the Epic Dental has more xylitol per piece and you don't need 4 to make a nice wad of gum! When we were doing that more regularly, the dc preferred the Epic brand, and I think it costed out cheaper, too.

I avoid fluoride like the plague!

Gina, I had hispanic piano students for several years and we worked out a trade with their mother. She taught the girls some Spanish in exchange for piano lessons! They never got fluent, but they got a nodding acquaintance with it!

Oldest dd also got the cheap or free version of Pimsleur Spanish--she liked it overall, but couldn't see spending money for the rest of it.

I think we also have another program that didn't even get loaded onto our computer due to issues at the time...and it is somewhere around here....

And to think I used to be fluent in Spanish and French!

Yeah. I live in Tennessee. I don't know what a humidity-free day feels like. Five minutes outside, and I can wring my hair out! But, at least I've found a cheap, natural way to combat the frizz! Olive oil, and apple cider vinegar are gifts from the gods! I haven't used shampoo or conditioner in years.

    Misty,

Where did you get the birthing skirt that you used before? I would love to get one of those!

Thanks Trisch for the links! I need to really work at doing something different for the kids (and myself)!

Got to leave the house early this morning to have breakfast with my dad. Came back to do some T-Tapp with my sister (she is so excited because I told her we will start doing TWO now---broken up into 3 days! But I warned her that I was only doing 4 reps of each move. Gives me time to critique her!! LOL). Then I brushed, showered, and left to meet dh. I left our 15-passenger at his office (come to find out--one brake line needed replacing!) and we went to lunch together and then I drove his vehicle home. It's about 45 min away near the ocean and it was just as humid down there as it was here!
