    Default Anybody use Mesquite Powder?

I just ordered some to play with and was surprised there are no suggestions on the bag! LOL Anyone have any favorite ways to use it?

Is it Mesquite Flour, Moyne? The reason I ask is some friends of ours gave us som Mesquite Flour that they had ground up--mesquite is plentiful in AZ--and they said they use it in pancakes, waffles, muffins etc. The only thing is, is that the flour is very dense and won't be fluffy when cooked. They use a ratio of flour to mesquite 3:1.

    HTH!

It's a sweet, yummy flavor about halfway between chocolate and carob. Apparently marries well with both flavors and is often used with cocoa/cacao. It's considered a superfood. It's sweet enough that it will reduce the amount of other sweetener you use. Most recipes just add a little bit. Lots of raw recipes using it, so I'm going to start playing with adding it to my raw cacao recipes.

The link Wendy posted above is for Navitas Naturals, one producer of raw mesquite powder/flour, and they also sell most other raw superfoods, so the recipes are mostly along those lines. I'm really looking forward to playing -- just a little on a spoon is enough to inspire you! LOL

I've been adding this to my healthy brownies, just for the flavor, and it definitely brings something great to the party!

Now, I want to try the fudgesicle recipe at Wendy's link, but I'm thinking I'll be using coconut MILK instead of OIL. (That's GOTTA be a typo! LOL)

I have it....I got it because some raw desserts I wanted to make called for it. A friend of mine who lives in Arizona told me to boil some water then add some mesquite to make sure it doesn't have any bugs. I guess sometimes "they" pick up the mesquite pods off the ground and they are infested with bug/bug eggs....

    Lovely, huh?

ICK! Well, I guess mine doesn't have bugs, because it's very hot and humid where I live and bug eggs HATCH this time of year around here. (This is the time of year I spend a lot of time tossing stuff out of my pantry......)

Do you have a favorite recipe using mesquite, Mary Ann?
