Default Chia Seeds - Looking for opinions

My friend was telling me that she added Chia Seeds to her diet as a good source of Omega 3's. I hadn't heard of them before and was wondering if anyone here could tell me more or point me to some substantive information online.

    Thanks!

I know Abbie loves chia seed pudding... I tried some this weekend. Didn't love it, but maybe it was the stuff I mixed in with it. I do add them to my smoothies and as long as I drink it fairly quickly, it is good. (They form a gel which works well as a thickener, but they get TOO thick for my poor little bendy straw... lol) They don't have any flavor of their own, they do have a texture you need to get used to. A little like tapioca...

I eat them regularly. I put some on my oats then mix it in when I add the hot water. I also add them to smoothies.. I like the thicker texture. You can also use chia seeds mixed with some water as an egg replacement in cooked recipes. My digestion is also better with them than without.

Chia Seed was popular a year ago that we have a thread for Chia Seed receipe. Dr. Perricone recommends it as a dense nutrient and a plant source Omega 3. I add in my smoothie, oatmeal or sweet potato when I do not have another source of protein. It helps elimination and detox too.

I bought a small pack to try (about an ounce), but I really hated the flavour and texture! I couldn't find a way to make them edible for me.

Up - I read a blog once who compared them to eating fairy eye balls. LOL But then she put them in her coffee grinder and added them to her smoothie that way and LOVED them! If I had a coffee grinder, I might try that. But my Ninja blender (which I mostly love) can't seem to grind them up. So... I just drink my little fairy eyes and smile.

Sadly as a tea drinker, I have no coffee grinder. NYMom, I would still encourage you to try them - I enjoy eating all sorts of weird, generally unpopular things!

If you google chia, you'll get lots of information. Dr. Mercola uses them, alternating them with flax seeds for their Omega 3 fat value.

I've read that hemp hearts also have lots of Omega 3 fats (Jean the magnesium lady sells this, too).

I used to eat Chia and hemp seeds, however lately I switched to Salba, which is considered to have all the benefits of Chia and even better.
It is worth while exploring it http://salbasmart.com/ and you have much more info if you Google it. I do use hemp hearts regularly as well.

Salba looks even more interesting! I think I might try it instead. Thanks everyone.
