Thread: Another question about workouts

    Default Another question about workouts

    Hi Everyone!

I am bit confused with longer workouts like Total and shorter ones like BWP and tempo series.

Prior to T Tapp I was doing P90X that has hour long workouts everyday, which I manged for a month. I must admit that T Tapp is all together a different experience and quite tough if you keep concentrating on your form ( I try my best with that).

After just 10 days of boot camp with Inst1&2 everyday I had to stop, couldn't take it longer. I was so tired that had to divide Inst2 in 2 sessions. Initially I thought that I'll be able to complete Total workout EOD as suggested and maybe BWP in between. But let me admit I'm finding it difficult. I did Total workout on Monday then BWP on Tuesday and today I'm not able to bring myself up to doing total workout again.

I haven't seen any inch or weight loss after my boot camp . I also have Tempo series with me and really like 20-25 mins of Tempo Torso, Arms and Lower body (in 2 sessions).

I'm a combo body type, so wanted to know whether I can do 20-25 of T Tapp everyday mixing above workouts coz I have seen Inst2 moves in Tempo lower body standing portion so I would not be missing on that, or it would be more beneficial in terms of inch/weight loss if I do Total workout EOD.

    Thanks in advance.

    Shalini,

Tempo is intermediate, you are not ready for it yet. Stick with Instructional 1 & Instructional 2 for these few months, it will lay a beautiful foundation.

Did you have a few days of complete rest after the 10 days bootcamp? If not, I think you need to take the rest of this week off. You can start working out next Monday again.

If Monday you did Total, Tuesday 2 you did BWO+ and now you are drained, that was too much exercise for you. The Tempo is shorter in duration, however, it calls for more muscles groups than BWO+ and TWO, so the muscle workout load is the same, therefore, it is not a good substitute for you. We do Tempo, Tempo Arms, Tempo Torso, Tempo Lower body on EOD too.

I will suggest you do 15-20 mins of Instructional 5 times a week. So, you can do Instructional 1 straight thru for Day 1, Day 2 PBS and 2 moves from Instructional 2, Day 3 Instructional 1 again, Day 4 Rest, no workout, Day 5 Instructional 1, Day 6 PBS and 2 moves from Instructional 2, Day 7 Rest.

See how you feel with this schedule. If you have energy and happy, this is a good routine to you and good for your stamina and health condition. You can add a few HD throughout the day, especially after meals. You can walk your dog when you have more time. If you have extra time you don't know what to do, record your form and review and compare to Teresa, make notes on what to improve for the next time.

We have a cut off at 20 mins of T-Tapp for everyday, if you want to do everyday with 1 day of rest, Tempo will not be it, except Tempo BWO+.

    Thanks ayj67,

    You are a life saver

I was so confused. After writing the post I watched Tempo series and realised it goes fast and with additional moves. So yes I need to stick with Inst1 & 2 and maybe I can divide Inst2 into 2 parts with PBS before each part.

Also, after 10 days I just took a day off on Sunday and continued next week alternating Inst1&2, again off on Sunday. So I guess I should rest more. Hope I will see some results in coming weeks

    Thanks a ton.

Shalini, ayj has good advice! Although it is possible for some people to do TWO EOD and BWO+ on the off days, but in all honesty, I would not advice it except for someone with NO adrenal or fatigue or health issues, and only for a very short time as a "push" to meet a goal.

When your body is not losing after a big effort like that, it can be either overtraining and you need to back off, or you could have some adrenal issues. Most people don't think they have adrenal issues. I joke that you have to prove to me that you don't! LOL!

I have maintained my size and continued to reshape and tone up on 1-2 classes per week that I teach. Laying a good foundation now, going slower, cutting reps, will help you maintain better down the road. I didn't believe that when I started! But I'm proof now!

    HTH!

    Thanks Trisch,

I have read lot of your posts as well as your success story, must say you are a great inspiration for people like me.

I am following ayj's advice of taking things slowly. I too felt that it is getting difficult for me to complete Total workout or even for that matter Inst2 in a go. So I'm sticking with 15 mins of T tapp every day with additional Hoe Downs. With lot of health issues like PCOS, Insulin resistance and border line hypothyroidism I can not rush things and it would be better if I try to reach my goal gradually.

I read in your post that you too take coconut oil and lots of other good fats, just wanted to know..do you count calories of Coconut oil in your diet? I'm finding it tough to maintain my calorie limit with coconut oil.

    Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure that counting calories when good fats are part of the diet is profitable. Our brains NEED those good fats!! Maybe if we are cutting back on starches and the simple carbohydrates then that would balance out the calorie count? Just thinking through the keyboard here.

    Hi Jennifer,

I do not cook with coconut oil but try to take about 4-5 tbs per day for the health benefits( we use either mustard oil or Ghee for cooking). 1tbs of coconut oil contains 117 calories. So the coconut oil is additional to my 1500-1700 diet, so asked. If I include coconut oil calories then it goes up to 2000-2100 per day.

I am trying to restrict my calories to help reduce weight.

    Hope I made sense

    Shalini, I don't count calories!

I'm of the mindset that if I am eating balanced (meaning good fats, good proteins, good carbs, and non-starchy veggies), then I will not overeat the wrong things. Right now I am eating way too much sugar. But I also have been "too busy" to make sure some of the good things we had going are still going! First thing is to get my fats back up, and then to make sure we add more veggies back in. Things had gotten hard to keep up with financially at the end of the winter season. Now things are not so pricey, so it's time to get back to it!

So, no, I don't count the fat calories at all, and even if I were counting calories, I wouldn't. But then weight has not been a good measurement for me. You can restrict too much and mess up your metabolism, and although the scales might be going down, that doesn't mean health. I love Dr. Diana Schwarzbein's quote: "You don't lose weight to get healthy, you get healthy to lose weight." That is exactly what has happened to me!

    HTH!

I understand, Shalini. I guess I was just saying that we need those good fats so badly that I wouldn't count those fats toward my calorie count if I were doing that. I know that I found it helpful to count my calories at one point as it really showed WHERE I was getting my calories from....mostly bad choices and that helped me to limit the bad choices. But if I made good choices all day and my calorie count was higher than what the app (used one for my iphone) said I should be taking, I didn't stress over it. Does that make sense?

    Yes Jennifer absolutely

I think it would be better if do not stress over calories with coconut oil and keep a watch on my food choices. Its already been 3 weeks taking coconut oil and I have not seen any increase in weight..though I did not lose any

I feel lot better after including it in my diet so will see after a month or 2 if there is no weight loss.

    Thanks.

    Shalini
