Default What is there to do??

Okay ladies, since y'all were so helpful in my last family trip question, I have another one!

We'll be driving through Savanah, Georgia and we aren't exactly sure what's there to do. We will have to stay a day for R&R, and we don't know how to spend a day there. Does anyone have any suggestions??

The same goes for North and South Carolina. I am not sure exactly what city we'll be traveling through, so anything y'all know would be helpful!

    TIA!!

Abbie - I'm from those areas and love them! I haven't answered because there is just so much to see. Savannah is gorgeous, so is Charleston SC. I prefer Charleston over Savannah, but a friend of mine prefers Savannah. :-) Both cities are full of southern charm, wonderful historical buildings and shopping. Savannah has River Street with fun shops. I love to drive around and see all of the old historical buildings. I've adored that since I was a kid. The best thing to do is to stop at the visitors center and see what appeals to you. My kids love Myrtle Beach, SC, tons to do there for kids!! You name it, it's there. :-)

Sorry I'm not to much help here...I just go visit and bounce around taking in all of the sights.

You could go out to Tybee Island when you are in Savannah. Are you a fan of butter? You could go to The Lady and Sons...Paula Deen's restaurant. :snicker: My aunt proclaimed it too high priced for the food though.

Greenville, SC is beautiful and if you follow along the Appalachian Trail and the Blue Ridge Parkway through NC you will just *come upon* lots of beautiful places like Bridal Veil Falls and Sliding Rock. Sliding Rock is LOTS of fun! It used to be $1 per person. http://www.ncwaterfalls.com/sliding_rock1.htm

I know you have a large family, so it might not be in the budget, but the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC is just amazing to tour....inside AND out. I haven't been there in years so I have no clue how much it costs.

If you like to hike and poke around, there are lots of sights to see for *free* along the Parkway

If you're looking for a lunch spot, a friend of mine recommended The Lady and Sons in Savannah. It's the Paula Deen restaurant. Not the healthiest option (hope it's a MM food day), but traditional southern food served buffet style.

I agree, NC has tons of fun spots in the mtns and all up the parkway. The net is a great help in searching for what appeals to your family. When are you going? There was some nature center we visited in Ashville that the kids enjoyed a couple of yrs ago. It is beautiful just driving there. In SC I vote for Charleston. It is charming and has a beach if you are not near one usually. Where are you guys from? I haven't hit Savannah myself so I might have to venture there to see it. I hear Greenville is nice. I still haven't been myself. Other than that SC has some nice parks to visit or the zoo but is not a wonderful visiting state. Most visit the beaches. Tons more to do in NC!
