Too Fat to T-Tapp?
Hello,
I hope everyone is well. I am new to t-tapp and I need some modifications to the MORE workouts. I am still doing the instructional and I am embarrassed to say I think I am too fat for t-tapp. Let me explain. I am the classic pear shape. I am 300+ lbs and my thighs are HUGE. When I attempt to tuck, lift, and bend my thighs get in the way. I lose form as soon as I attempt the workout. By the time I get back into the proper position to do the workout I am worn out. I have nearly fell a few times just trying to stay into position. It is the most uncomfortable and awkward position I have ever attempted due to my thighs. Also, my knees are killing me. I cannot afford to be disabled. I am the sole caregiver to both my sister who is autistic and my mother who has Parkinson's disease.
I am 40 years old and I know what obesity and poor eating habits can do, almost everyone in my family has died of heart trouble, cancer, or a diabetes related illness. I am trying to get fit with t-tapp because it promises two things that appeal to me. One, short effective workouts, and secondly, inch lost. I really need t-tapp to work because I am tired of feeling awful and socially awkward. This year I went to Radio City Music Hall to see the Christmas show and I could not wait for it to be over because I could barely fit in the seat properly. Any advice would greatly be appreciated. Thanks for reading the LOOOOOONG letter.
Sincerely,
Coop

Coop,
Welcome. There is nothing we cannot do, just need some time and patience for the strength and stamina to grow.
I will suggest you start with More Chair, in the More workout menu, there are 4 short workout. More, More Chair, More Broom and More Step Away.
Try the Chair, Broom and Step Away and see how you like them and if you can keep consistent with them and that you are not in pain or hurting in any way. Also, there is a floor move call Organ in Place in the More DVD too, do that while in bed and get your lower abs muscles awake. Our tuck butt is initated from the lower abs, Transverse Abdominal Muscles, the OIP is specifically tightening that area.
More is a great program, make sure you do the knee modification, that is push knees out first before tuck, see if that will help you spacing. If you can reduce reps to 2, start with just 2 reps on the instructional for just 5 mins a day.
Come back and let us know how it goes, if you need more help, check back later, we have trainer for More, they will tell you more. You can also call the office to see if they have any recommendation in addition to ours.
Don't give up, Yes, you can!
Ordered More and TWO on 7/7/2010, Started tapping on 7/30/2010.

(((HUGS)))!!!!! I'm sorry your having such great difficulty. T-Tapp can be hard for even " thin" people. Please don't beat yourself up over this. I'm afraid I don't have any advise, but don't worry a trainer will be here soon. Anyway, I just wanted to say WELCOME!

HUGS here, too!
ayj gave you the same advice I would. Don't underestimate the shorter workouts! MORE Chair has saved me many times over the beginning years due to having a hip issue that used to bother me (T-Tapp rehabbed it). Also, when I had an adrenal crash almost 3 years ago, I used MORE Chair to help me crawl out of that hole!
Start with the shorter workouts for now--if you can do the Primary Back Stretch from the workout menu first, that would be good, especially before Broom. But MORE Chair has some stretching/warming up built in if it's too much to do PBS too.
Stick around the forums, too, as they are a great source of encouragement and help!
HUGS again! We're here to help!

Welcome...and echoing the others who say "Yes you Can!"

{Hugs} to you, Coop! And welcome! Teresa says often in her DVD's, "Go to YOUR max" for a reason! We all have different starting points. I am closer to 300 pounds than I ever thought I'd be, and I do understand the difficulties of getting into the correct position and holding it....although my abdomen gets in the way of proper form more than my thighs. I have gotten stronger and lost inches every time I choose to be even partly consistent with the workouts, and quickly. When I stayed consistent for three weeks, I saw about 25 inches melt away (now to KEEP the momentum going!). The MORE DVD is really a fantastic place to start, with its shorter workouts, and even the seated workout. Please don't underrate the effectiveness of these workouts! Trish has said that during most of her first few years, about 80% of her workouts were from the MORE DVD, and she went from size 22 to about a size 6. Just doing these quick routines a few times a week! Trisch and Ayj are wonderful at responding to specific form or any possible kind of questions you may have (ask me how i know!!!!!). This is a wonderful, encouraging forum, so if you're willing to put time aside for YOUR health and visit here often, I think you'll find some awesome people more than ready to walk through the tough stuff with you.
I think you'd be encouraged to read the book Teresa wrote. Lots of good information in there! And the stories of health improvements of all sizes and types of women are absolutely inspiring. Many libraries have a copy of her book, although if you buy your own copy, there's a 30% off coupon for your next order....of anything(s) you want in the T-Tapp store.
It does take time to rebuild the body and make it strong. Please be patient with yourself. You're worth it. And if all you can do is a couple of exercises each day for now, then do those! Get strong! Then add a move from time to time as you can.

I don't always keep my feet as close together as I should. But I'm still seeing results, and feeling the muscles work. Maybe that could help you with your balance?
I also like the "working T-Tapp into real life" tips, like doing "ribs up," "tighten lats," and "tuck" when you think of it through the day. These little moves do add up. I even like to push my feet down while sitting at my desk, knees out, of course, which is part of the MORE routine. Every little bit helps retrain our bodies!

Great advice so far. I agree with starting with MORE Chair. Also try lifting your ribs through out the day
Hang in there, you can do it! Be proud you are getting started, now don't stop, you are worth it. Baby steps will get you there.
