Darn...I meant to mention gluten...
Those of you who have Matt's books--Does he talk about who should be avoiding gluten?
Naturally, if one is Celiac or has had a positive result on gluten sensitivity (as I have), one should avoid gluten. But one thing I'm learning is how gluten negatively affects those of us with any autoimmune issues, as well as those of us with thyroid issues. Since low body temperature is a direct result of an under active thyroid, many integrative practitioners encourage the avoidance of gluten. I know from personal experience that gluten causes me to be depressed and lethargic for several days after exposure. So, just to make folks aware, if you find your temps aren't rising, and you've been eating gluten-rich foods, you might want to give it a trial of eliminating gluten and seeing if that helps raise your temps.

Wow, lots of good posts. Susan, please keep posting about your progress... it's very encouraging. I'm not being as careful about what I eat yet so I wouldn't expect to see the same results you're getting, but it's helpful to hear how it's working for you. We are each different, so we each have to find our own path but it's nice to have company along the way. I'll keep an eye out for what he says about gluten, although Callie probably already knows.
I might be seeing some slight rise in temps but it's too soon to know for sure if it's an upward trend. They aren't substantial changes so it's hard to say yet. I'm still seeing some temps in the 96's but more in the low 97's now and during the day yesterday I had a 98.2 or something like that. I'm still not consistently measuring during the day, though, so I don't have a lot to compare.I have been doing some exercise, but limiting it to 15 minutes or less. Like today I did PBS, the first 10 minutes of HTFS, one HD and one 45-second plank. Out of all that the plank was probably the hardest work. I'm not doing even this much every day, though. Yesterday I did PBS and one HD. Does this sound like too much?
Well, I just finished a plate of food but I'm still hungry so I'm going to go make a smoothie (I might have to give these up but I haven't yet). Then I'll see if I can get in some more reading. Keep up the good work, everyone.... we'll get there!

Matt doesnt seem to worry too much about sensitivities just because he believes many can be overcome by raising temps. However I know in some specific cases he recommends avoiding it if it is hindering progress. I think it's an individual thing. After anorexia I was So sensitive to gluten it would knock me out for a day LITERALLY and my face would puff up and I would be so depressed and borderline suicidal. Now I eat it freely when i want although i dont think it does much for temps so its not a part of my rrarf barebones menu. What seemed to help get rid of the sensitivity was doing a CO cleanse for candida and taking mms and lemon water to alkalinize. The candida seemed to be a huge kingpin in many sensitivities. And also my temps. When I came off a juice fast last year I was sensitive to a ton of things and my temps were also the lowest ever. If you have celiacs it may be different. It's hard to say. Cold light therapy also clears allergies.

Callie, no, you are not drowning us in too much information at all. I don't know if I would even be trying this without someone who had been there and done that to show the way and encourage me. I will try your recommendation of checking temps before and after exercise to see if it makes a difference. I don't feel like it's strenuous exercise and I'm careful not to do it if I really don't want to.
Working on my thinking, getting back to more optimism, etc. The mental stuff is definitely every bit as hard as the physical!

Thank you everyone for sharing. I've really been enjoying this thread today and I feel newly encouraged. Callie, I agree with Peggy. Please keep "drowning" us with more information! Susan and Callie, thanks also for sharing what you've been eating. I just had a big, baked sweet potato , plus about a cup of rice with a small piece of chicken and a large salad. I thought that it was chicken skin that we should avoid, as that's where most of the Omega 6 fat is. I guess it permeates the meat, also, especially the dark meat. Also, whereas root veggies are very warming to the system, salads are very cooling, and should be more of a summertime food. I'm re-thinking my salads for now. Just some left-over thinking from my macrobiotic days from way back when.
Susan, is there any reason in particular why you are recommending the saliva test? It's pretty obvious to me, at this point, that my adrenals are exhausted. In "Stop the Thyroid Madness" they recommend the test to determine if cortisol treatment would be of benefit but at this point I'm not considering anything like that. Just wondering what the benefit would be. Also, where do you get raw milk in NC? I found out that we would have to drive to SC at a pick-up point on a certain day and time. Haven't done that yet.

Callie, do you think that macadamia milk would be ok? I use 1/3 C macadamias, grind them up, add some water and liquify. Then I add enough water to make 1 quart. Other than that I am off nuts. My digestion system has improved with the lack of copious amounts of nuts.
I am starting in fits and starts. I had some rice when I first started taking my temp and my morning temps were 97.6. Pretty close. Now as the days go by without the extra starches, my temp is dropping. It was 97.3 this morning. I keep forgetting to take my temp in the afternoon. Today I had potatoes for breakfast and sweet potatoes for lunch and am planning rice for supper. It will be interesting to see what my temps will be tomorrow morning. It's 4 pm and I just took my temp-96.9. I clean houses for a living, so I am moving all day, every day, except Sun. I am not tapping at the moment because of what I have read on this thread. I also want to take my temps for adrenal issues. Someday when I get my act together.
Thanks everyone for posting. This makes for interesting reading. And Callie more info is good. Thanks.
Bev

GREAT NEWS, Bev! I haven't been as quick to respond with higher temps but they did pop up a couple of times. I know something is happening and I feel that I'm on the right pathway, also.
Keep us posted!

Bev, I'm still doing some fruit also, but not a lot, mostly just berries in my smoothie (which are also not highly recommended, but I'm still doing them). I'm not eating as much fruit as I'd like to eat, that's for sure! Would love to see the day that I can eat fruit more freely, as I love it.
I've been experiencing a feeling of fullness in my abdomen, kind of a bloated feeling, which drives me crazy. I really hate that feeling and it annoys me no end. I'm adjusting my DE to see if that will help, as it seemed to be better when I was splitting the dose half in the morning and half at night. This is not something that just happened with the 180 protocol, but something that I've dealt with for years. Sluggish digestion is likely the culprit and as I've added more food it just adds that much more that has to be processed. I have to make sure I'm drinking enough, which adds to the feeling of fullness. Sometimes I wonder if I'm eating too much, but I'm hungry. I did read in one of Matt's books that leptin resistance will make one feel hungry even when you know you're not. I also related to several other "symptoms" of leptin resistance and I want to re-read that to understand it better.
