    Default Alfalfa Question/PMS

After reading a few other threads and experiencing the benefits of alfalfa myself...I am considering giving some to my teen daughter who also suffers greatly with PMS (as do I.) However, after doing a little "Google research" everything says those suffering with PMS should NOT take alfalfa as it's a phyto-estrogen and could make things worse. From what I can gather, it would widen the gap between the estrogen and the progesterone (which, it is said, is the true culprit.) I've also read that alfalfa can interfere with the reproductive system, something that I wouldn't want to do to my DD!

I would love to hear your 2 cents worth on this subject.

    Blessings,
    Wendy

Hi purplepoodle..... like I've said before, The Premium Blended Afalfa that we're able to get is not a phyto-estogen. Instead it is an adaptogen which means it HELPS regulate estrogen levels! If estrogen is too high, it'll lower....if it's too low, it'll increase.....AND what makes this so helpful is that hormones are ALWAYS in a state of fluctuation daily, even throughout the day, NOT just monthly... so having a nutritional dense food supplement like Premium Blended Alfalfa really helps those who suffer with PMS. I know I used to recommend it to many teenagers when I worked in the modeling industry and ALL reported better/less PMS!

But, if you have any doubts then by all means don't have your daughter take it. I just want you to know that I really do believe in the adaptogen power of Premium Blended Alfalfa for a MULTITUDE of reasons.

Best wishes to you and your daughter.....

    Teresa

Wendy, I just wanted to add that I have two of my dds on it--one is 23 and the other 19. It has helped BOTH of them with their cycles, cramps and PMS!

Not to mention what it's done for me.... LOL!

And Teresa is just as sweet and real in person as she is here on the forums!

I think I've mentioned on these boards about the Grand Experiment for my oldest, whose cycles put her on the floor, in front of the toilet, writhing in pain, and vomiting monthly ~ it's always been this way since the onset of puberty.

I put her on 9 caps a day, and she just sailed through a cycle, with the equivalent of what I would call "normal" for most PMS symptoms . . . :WOW:

She has taken it upon herself to up her dosage to 12 this next month, to see if even those symptoms dissipate.

I'm so relieved for her I cannot tell you . . . I'm happy for the energy I experience, the sense of well being . . . but for her? I'm over the moon!!!

Discovered I *loved* the TTapp stretching, then found I'd lost 32.73 inches after SEVEN weeks!!! (including a bootcamp). Downsized to a 10!! As of November, 2010, 44.75 inches!!!

Determined I'd go beyond my original goal of "two sizes in four weeks" . . . so I'm headed to my pre-pregnancy size, folks: a 6!!!!

BTW - Angi, it was your thread that got me thinking about all this for my daughter. Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I knew you were doing it. I'm glad to hear that it worked!

WOW!!!! That's pretty impressive I'd say! So does it continue to regulate hormones after menopause when estrogen drops off or is none existent with removal of ovaries? I haven't a clue what mine are doing. I only know that I've had 3 different issues related to estrogen dominance. Anywhere to read about this? Thanks!

Only going from memory, without the data directly in front of me, I recall reading that it aids in controlling the pineal gland, which regulates all of those hormones?

I had been taking a maintenance amount for years, before I knew that I was entering menopause. I realized that I was really in menopause when I came down with the flu and was taking all kinds of supplements to get me over it as quick as possible. I was so "sick" of taking so many pills that for a couple days after I was feeling better, I stopped taking everything. It was winter, I was outside, scraping the snow off my car while it was still snowing, not wearing a coat and I felt like a furnace! I thought "so THIS is what a hot flash feels like"! I started back up on the alfalfa right then. I was never as good about taking it as I should have been during the day, but I got in my 3 in the AM everyday and most of the time 3 at night. That dose kept my hot flashes at bay, my hair and nails as strong as they were when I was younger, so I was satisfied with that. Menopause has been awful as far as the TOM goes. Thanks to these forums, and Teresa & Joan, I have managed to avoid HRT and doctors. After all, this is a natural progression and I didnt want to "speed" things up, just make them bearable. These past 3 months have been wonderful and I thought I was finally through menopause, so I weaned myself off alfalfa. My daily vitamin has plenty of folic acid, so my nails and hair have not suffered. However, mid-Oct I started TOM and it hasn't stopped! It slowed down to almost a stop, then some spotting and BAM I couldn't keep up with it. It got so heavy I was in the bathroom all the time, I was at my wits end. I went back to my Nerve & Osteo, per Teresa's recommended dosage when I met her in Buffalo a few years ago. I'm not sure if that made a difference BUT (long story to get to this part) 2 days ago I found a half bottle of alfalfa. I started taking 3 four times a day. I'm finally back to using a light liner - in just TWO days! You can bet I'm going to be ordering more and getting myself on a maintenance dose ASAP! Now if I could only get my adult daughters to take a few of these a couple times a day, instead of birth control pills to control their cycles, I'd be making great strides!

I think you will find that you will be only happy with the results you will get with BBB alfalfa.
