Default Glutes and curling the core while sitting

I've got out of town company right now and am not getting in as much T-Tapp as I would like. So, I am trying to make sure I keep proper hip to shoulder alignment and curl the core while we are in the car or sitting around visiting. However, I think I may be tightening my butt muscles too much. Does anyone else really find themselves engaging the glutes while doing this move? Does this indicate that I am doing it wrong? Does anyone have any form tips to offer?

    Thanks!

I've been doing the same ever since I started T-Tapp. At first I know I was tightening the glutes a lot, but lately I've been able to differentiate between tucking and tightening. I don't think it hurts anything to tighten the glutes... I think it's good... but it does get tiring. I do notice a tendency when I tuck to also let my chest drop a bit, and thus the shoulders come forward. Have to watch that. It'll be interesting to hear what the trainers say.

You will tighten the glutes some, but it shouldn't be really intense. Just make sure you are initiating the move from the core, not the glutes.

I'm not a trainer (just a wannbe!), that is what I've gleaned here and at clinics!

Thanks, Trisch... I think what I discovered one day in the car is that distinction of initiating from the core rather than the glutes. I actually think it's easier to get it right when standing, but it sure helps to be able to work on this in the car, or when sitting in a meeting or something. I am so mindful of my posture now! I'll catch myself slouching at the kitchen counter while making dinner and straighten right up.

I do believe I am initiating from the core. However, the longer I try to hold it, the more I seem to tighten my glutes. Maybe this issue will lessen as my core gets stronger? I just notice after a while that my butt is getting very tired...lol. Like Peggy, I too find it easier to tuck without so much glute activation when standing and also from on the floor.

I do notice, also like Peggy, that I am more mindful of my posture now! I have always been a bad sloucher, so it is a challenge to keep those shoulders in alignment!

    Thanks,
    Valorie
