    Default Help for a Friend

    Hello all,

I posted several weeks ago about what a friend of mine might be able to do with T-tapp and received some good suggestions. She is nearly bedridden with MULTIPLE medical problems - terrible knee pain, chronic obesity due to complications from a complicated back surgery she had in her twenties, slipped disc, a 'bad' heart valve, chronic anemia, etc. I told her about T-tapp and am going down to Washington for 3 weeks to help her as much as I can, leaving this Saturday, equipped with the MORE dvds and as much motivation as I can muster! I'm not even sure what she will be able to do, if anything. She is on strong pain medication also. Is there anyone in particular I should have her talk to in customer service before I attempt to work with her? I'm almost a little scared. Even doctors just look at her now and say "what do you want me to do with you" because she is fearful of having another back surgery. She was hospitalized a couple months ago just for rehab, to try to get up and walking again, and was able to do by forcing herself and in spite of the pain, but just slipped back down again once she returned home. She even ordered herself an expensive home bicycle, which she really liked, but has not even been able to use it for some time.

Anyway, I am not sure what I am looking for - just thought I should 'check in' before we get started!

    Thanks all,
    Erica

    Erica,
I am not a trainer and have no advice. But I will be praying for you as you work with your friend. She is blessed to have someone like you as a friend.

I am 59 and stronger than I have ever been and more than ready for this next stage of life. I plan on keeping my muscle strength, bone strength and flexibility through t-tapp way into my 90's. Think of all the fun I am going to have the next 30 years!!

Erica, Casey at the T-Tapp office has always been so helpful and patient to me.
I would suggest asking for her.

MORE is probably what she would recommend. If your friend starts with what she can do of MORE, hopefully she will be able to build up from there.

I would agree about MORE. Having the Chair portion would make it doable for her if anything would be. She can just do what she can. She might not be able to activate much, but whatever she can do will help!

You might find this thread encouraging!'

    Erica,

Do you think your friend could be persuaded to try acupuncture? Known for relieving pain, stress, depression and improving mobility, it may be improve her chances of success with T-Tapp.

Our first experience with acupuncture was nearly 4 years ago when our DD underwent high-dose chemotherapy and radiation after being diagnosed with a malignant pediatric brain tumor. The acupuncture not only relieved nausea and improved her WBC count, but relieved pain from neuropathy caused by the toxic treatments. Throughout her treatment her doc always said “She’s my healthiest patient.” If acupuncture can benefit those going through cancer treatments, it could certainly benefit your friend. I personally have enjoyed pain and stress relief from acupuncture. Heck, you might try it yourself; caretaking is a stressful occupation!

Wishing you Peace and Courage as you assist your friend; you’re already a Blessing to her!
    Susan

PS: DD is now a healthy 18 year old Dean’s Scholar loving her first year of college.

Do make sure she is cleared by her doctor to exercise before you start or if he/she has any limitations for her. There is no way without seeing her ourselves that we can really recommend what she should do or what modifications she should make. That being said, T-Tapp Chair is usually a safe place to start. Hope all goes well! Hugs to you both.

    Default Thanks.........

Kayla - Thanks, that is a good suggestion! (and I'm bummed you won't be in WA when I am!)

Casadolce - Wow, that sounds interesting. I have thought about acupuncture before. The problem with my friend (Kathy) is that at this point she can barely get out of the house and is actually looking for MD's that make house calls. A good thing to keep in mind, though. I will check into that! Wow, so glad your DD is okay!!!

Trisch - thank you! My DH suggested I take our little portable DVD player, so maybe she can do them even if she can't get OUT of bed!

Piglet2 - thanks, I will call when I am down there! (I leave tomorrow).

    Thanks everyone!

Erica, too bad we'll miss each other! Although, I was just in WA this morning. I actually live about 15 minutes from the border so depending on where you go in WA, we can connect sometime in the future!
