The virus that causes shingles, cold sores, genital sores, etc. lives dormant in the spinal and drugs do nothing to kill this virus and little to relieve the pain. I know people with all the varieties and the suffering they deal with on a continual basis. All forms are VERY painful and generally triggered by stress. Once an "outbreak" starts this adds more stress to the already stressful situation. Not only physical pain but the "social" issues are emotional taxing.

Oh yes and the coconut oil...i'm going to mix some cayenne in with that to apply as well...

I also mega-dose vit C. when I feel a cold sore coming on. sometimes they dry up (as if) from the inside. I also apply wheat-germ-oil vit E on the outside to keep it from drying and to soothe the pain.

My daughter's boyfriend was just diagnosed with shingles. Of course, he's on medication. They will be home from college this weekend, so I intend to make a trip to the HFS to pick up some of these supplements. This probably a question that doesn't have a definitive answer, but how long to these take to make a positive affect on someone? I'm sure every case is different. I'm getting the impression that his case is one of the more severe cases. He would like to come in this weekend for my MIL's funeral, but I'm afraid to put him through the stress of meeting so many new people and of course, exposing anyone there to his shingles. Should I be concerned about the other visitors? I have used the Lysine and Vit C with great success when I had shingles (and cold sores), but the shingles were so long ago. Thanks for any new info.

I'm glad you brought this up Michelle as I never got back to Joan. My husband took probably two doses of the supplements and the pain went away and shingles never manifested!

Ollie, it depends a lot on how advanced they are. Once they've got a strong foothold, as it sounds like his is, the supps will be less effective. It's easier to head it off than it is to heal it.

No one can "catch" shingles from him, but they would have a low possibility of getting chicken pox, if they don't have immunity. His system really needs to rest and recover.

Dr. Jonathan Wright of the Tahoma Clinic in WA has a protocol that heals shingles more quickly. It includes a topical cream that relieves the pain. You might check his website to see if any of it is available through his dispensary. He describes the protocol in his book Natural Medicine, Optimal Wellness.

I'm so glad to hear he is doing so well!! I'm sorry for what he goes through but I'm so happy that you began this thread as this information will be sure to help many people.
