This is jmho, but I personally wouldn't do floor work while pg, mainly to avoid any issues with the diastasis. That's just me. But I have a hard enough time keeping my abs tight without a baby in the way! LOL!

I think I'd agree with you Trisch except those who are very strong to start with or don't get huge....hmmmmm...good excuse NOT to do floor work anyway!

LOL.... I don't LOVE floor work anyway, but I could do it while pregnant because I didn't have an issues with diastasis. Good to keep in mind, though, Trisch!!

Diastasis recti is a separation between the left and right side of the rectus abdominis muscle, which covers the front surface of the belly area.

It is not just in pregnancy and not just in women. But more common in pregnancy and post partum because of the growing fetus.

    Hi AngelLeigh,

Diastasis is a separation in the muscle wall in the abdomen that many women get because of pregnancy. I know that there are others who can give a more detailed description and there has been discussion on this before if you do a search for "diastasis".

If I lie on the floor, (I've done it with my knees up and with my legs flat) and raise my head and then place my fingers below my belly button--rolling my finger tips, I can feel my muscles, but then there is a V just below my belly button. That is the start of the muscle wall separation for me. The V has grown closer to my belly button the last couple of months. I can press my finger tips and feel the edges of this separation getting wider on either side of my belly button.

Just a month or so ago, I could not feel any muscle at all once my finger tips passed my waist line. There just seemed to be this huge empty cavern. Saturday I checked again and my finger tips almost met in the valley (I'm pressing pretty hard to feel it through my Mommy Belly) where my belly button is. I continued pressing and searching, moving my finger tips wider apart to feel the edges of the separation and I encountered muscle in my upper abs!!! I can't tell you how thrilled I was!! No more empty cavern.

Now I am working on the upper abs. You can view my pictures on my profile and see just how bad that area is.

    I hope this illustration helps!

Hi Everyone! I am due here anyday.... Yeah!!! I am huge with twins and I am soooo ready for them to finish cooking and get on out and join the family craziness. I have been doing the Ladybug workout, minus all floor work. I love it! I feel like it gives me the extra focus on those body parts that have grown to support my belly and babies. I don't do any OIP.....because well it's impossible! But I can't wait to get into it after the babies are born and I have some energy for it. The workout has help with my sciatic and back pain. I have more clarity, focus and energy when I do it. I have only been doing it maybe twice a week. Seriously... this belly of mine makes alot of moves.. to hilarious to even attempt!

Well ladies thanks for the cheers of support! I wouldn't say super hero... maybe just a rookie. Compared to all of you I have a lot to learn. I am really just so excited to do all of this after pregnancy. I want to get strong and back in shape. I just worry about all the extra skin.....blah. I have been doing skin brushing, minus about a weeks total of days missed. I have also been rubbing my belly with magnesium oil and I have not one stretch mark. This says a lot due to the fact that I am 43" around. So I am such a believer in the skin brushing and oil. I really don't know what I would have done without finding ttap and the forums. Thanks to all the ladies out there who pave the way for us hopefuls! I am close to having these kiddos, I will let you know how everything goes. I am aiming for my natural birthing, thats if the doctors stay out of my way! Look I have done it before, 3 times and I feel stronger now than I did during those pregnancies. So WATCH OUT! Hee heeeee!

Anyway ladies.......thanks. Any tips for after the babies tummy toning is so welcomed. Have a great day......
