What is fat shift?
Hi There,
I'm new to Tapping. This is my first week ever doing the BWO. I'm still trying to learn the lingo and abbreviations (is there a post with those somewhere?).
I keep seeing fat shift mentioned. What is that? How can I prevent it?
I don't have alot to lose. I'm 5'3" and weigh about 126, but I have a very high percentage of fat especially around my belly (after having 4 children, including twins). I didn't measure before I started tapping--just figured as long as I was feeling good and fitting my clothes better it wouldn't matter. I'd like to be down to 115 and tone. I hurt my back during my 3rd workout because my legs were trembling and I couldn't hold my tuck during the twist. But I'm still able to exercise, PTL!
Why is it that those that don't have as much to lose seem to have much slower progress? I'm already mostly all grain free/sugar free in my diet (celiac with an occasional white chocolate mocha from STarbuck's). So, I don't think I could limit my diet anymore than it is already.
I just want to make sure I'm starting off on the right foot, kwim? I just got Fit & Fab from the library and will read that as I continue the BWO. I'd love your suggestions and explanation of fat shift and doing things right from the beginning.
Many Thanks,
Betty

Re: fat shift. Think of putting on a girdle or control top hose. As you pull them up, sometimes the fluff lifts up above the "controlled" area. Fat shift is like that. As your natural internal muscle girdle tones, tightens and lifts, the fluff can shift about. But, later the fluff burns off!

Also check out the "Must Read Threads for All T-Tappers" that is stickied near the top of the General Discussion forum. Lots of great info in there including info on the fat shift.

Welcome
Welcome to T-Tapp and the forums
We are happy to have you here.
Even though you have less to lose, I'd suggest taking measurements and pictures anyways. In the past, I was ready to throw in the towel because didn't feel like I was losing anything. Thankfully I had my pictures and was shocked to see the difference. Just last night, a friend (and somebody I am helping with T-Tapp), re-did her pictures from just 1 1/2 weeks ago. Wow, we saw a difference in that amount of time and it motivated her big time.
Start out with the instructionals and do those for a good amount of time. Form is EVERYTHING in T-Tapp so always keep that in mind. If you have any questions or want to share your successess (or fustrations), this is the place. Lots of wonderful T-Tappers here to help each other out.

Think of fat shift as a wonderful thing b/c once you get the fat moved "out" then you can burn it off! I experience it in the belly area but was so excited as I burned it away and could see and feel all the muscles underneath! Welcome to t-tapp!
