Organic gardening?
We're looking at what to plant in a veggie garden this year, and we also have peaches, apples, and grapes. Is there anything we can use on the fruit trees and in the vegetable garden to keep the bugs away? We've never sprayed our peach tree with anything and it still does great. Our apple tree is another story, and I don't want bugs eating my tomatoes, green beans, etc.
Can anyone point me to a specific product or mixture I can use? I'd rather not use commercial pesticides. I know I can use a Dr. Bronner's soap/water mixture maybe on the vegetable garden, but I'm not sure about the trees. Any thoughts?

Check out Neem Oil, our HFS carried it. Also there's a garlic spray that works on somethings as well. We have a book called the Gardener's Bible. I'm not home right now so I can't remember who wrote it but it's all about organic gardening, my Dh and use it as a reference all the time.

Hi Meredith!
Where do you live? I live in Wisconsin and I never spray anything on my veggies so the kiddos can go and pick fresh veggies whenever they want.
The only issue I had this year was with cucumber beatles and they were closer to the end of Aug. but man, they destory everything! Even flowers, but I never sprayed.

I'm in Utah. I'll have to check Whole Foods and see if they have anything or can make a recommendation. I'll look into the Neem oil too. Thanks! I think my main worry is my apple tree.

Cayenne will deter ants and cocoa shell husks (sold in bags at nurseries) will deter snails.

I was so happy with my garden last year, I did also have some spider mites but I would find them and squish them[xx(] so it was always in control. When I had a garden in Florida I had every pest you could think of especially worms that ate the tomatoes and man they get BIG, GREEN AND UGLY! One worm had just munched and muched and was about 5 inches long when I discovered it, eeekk...just thinking of it gives me the willies. And of course, when I plant, I always say a prayer and promise to share what my garden gives me.

Check out Jerry Baker. He has written many books on non-toxic ways to fight off critters in the garden.
