    Default calves increasing walking uphill

I have been having to walk uphills for a few months and my problem area - calves- is getting even more problematic. They are definitely getting bigger and they were already too big for my taste as it was.

Is there a way to counteract this? There is not that much fat to burn off, just mostly muscle. I've been doing awesome legs on and off but this walking uphill business is causing undesired effects.

    Please advise.

Sofee, part of what makes up our calves is our body type, skeletal structure, and muscles. I'm with you on not liking big calves, but I've got 'em. I even have cankles, to tell the truth. No real ankles, but thick calves. It may be that your muscular structure is responding to how you are working and building your calves, and you know what?

    That's a good thing!

Keep on working and TTapping; if you're using the TTap stance when you walk, it may be that your muscles will lean out the more you work them. A common thing is that once we being really taxing our muscles, they build up...and then as we keep working them, they settle in. (As always, trainers, if I'm misrepresenting facts, please correct any statements that are incorrect.)

If there's not much fat to burn off, you may be like me, a person with calves that are larger than tall, slim people calves.

But that's ok! You probably can see defnition in them, and you know that they work exactly how they are supposed to, to help you power up your hills.

Part of fitness is how we look; the majority of fitness is how we feel and how our bodies work for us, and sometimes that means accepting our bodies the way they are.

    Thanks NeonJungle.

What is the Ttapp stance when walking though?

And also, I was doing a little search online and read that sometimes the calves are overcompensated for weak tibiula(?) anterior muschles which are the shins. Do you think that's true? It was suggested to have your gait analyzed.

And if i may ask another question, does wearing the wrong size shoes have an effect to your legs muscles? I have unusually small feet and the smallest women's size 5 is still a little big for me. And there is only a small selection of 4.5 shoes which are either too ugly or too expensive or both.

    Thanks for your help.

T-Tapp Stance when walking is covered in detail on the Step Away the Inches Walking workout. Basically, make sure toes are forward, shoulders stay in alignment with hips, do KLT and tuck butt. It feels really awkward at first, but the more you do it the more it becomes like second nature.
