Hi I just wanted to chime in here that I do use it on my dog on Joan's recommendation. She has never tried to lick it off, I think because it doesn't smell that great!

Lauri - Yes, I use it on them (and I have lots) as needed for sores, lumps, etc. If they DO eat it, it will not hurt them but they likely will not go back for more! Chapparel not only stinks like smoke (bacon some days, forest fire on others ), but tastes worse! They likely will not go back for more!!

Bev () is right - it does stain. Just wrap the area, if possible on pets or husbands, and all is good.

My dd is using this on my gd for molluscum contagiosum. This brings the junk to a head for easy removal without scarring! She puts it on her bumps at night and she wears an old t-shirt to bed. No problem.

Hm. I was just about to ask you about the ointment and molluscum contagiousum Joan. You beat me to it! We've been dealing with this for a year now in one kiddo then it took off on the other three when their immune systems were so depleted with the wc. My question is is it practical for me to use on Seth (age 4...uncooperative) who has like 50 on one leg? He also has them on an area I'm not going to treat and wouldn't dare pinch. After using the ointment to bring it to a head is your dd then pinching the gunk out? His seem to be at a head quite nicely and I know it would cut their lives short to pinch 'em off but...there are so many on his leg...I just don't want them to spread anymore. How long is it taking with the molluscum?

    Thanks Joan!

Rose - My daughter attacks (not really but she does squeeze hard) her daughter (age 7.999 according to her) and she is no longer allowed to squeeze these. Truth - my grandaughter is a little dramatic and I have little tolerance. Also, my touch is softer!

When they came to visit for 4 days we did the BO every night and by the 3rd day I was able to squeeze the "thing" right out. I told her to start applying it and just let them come to a head on their own - that reminds me, I need to check and see if she has done that yet! LOL! The BO will bring them to a head and it would be safe on the 'nether regions' as well. I am just guessing here...

Joan, do you use the ointment 6 days and wrap with cotton and then plastic like Dr. C mentions with a day of rest until the problem is resolved? Thanks.

Rose, that mollusk thingy sounds dreadful and I've never heard of it before. You poor guys have been through a wringer this past year and I hope things get far better for all of you. Hugs.

Thanks Pamela. This really has been a doozy of a year for my guys. And, it isn't over! I've always know wc would be a tough one just never realized how long reaching the ramifications would be. Still better then risking the vaccine for the low probability of it working.

Thanks Joan. I've learned alot about these buggers since first discovering them! They are such a pain. Some of the bumps (we call them Aliens, btw) are easy to squeeze and others lie below the surface...those are the ones that would do well with the ointment. I hate to let them take baths and I have a few that prefer them to showers. They each use a new towel and their own towel each time (lotsa laundry!!). Squeezing them can seem dramatic...especially when the twerps scream before you even touch them!! The struggle I've had with some of these is they will infect after squeezing and take awhile to heal. However, some of them infect without squeezing too!! What I've learned to do is disinfect the area well, treat with salve and band-aid...covering it for DAYS. The insides are very very contagious and a popped one should be covered...which creates a problem with a child that has them on his "ahem" and 50 on one leg!!! We are playing the waiting game with many of them. My 6 yo has a red one on his belly now that will need covering quickly. Then I have the issue that my little guy reacted to the band-aid being on for days! AARGH!!! I wish wish wish I'd tackled him with the first that appeared on his leg as they spread with the skin to skin contact. After seeing these on his *ahem* unit I understand how this is a VD for adults. My dh and I can't figure out how I'm still unaffected and carefully inspect any skin question that arises on ourselves. I will squeeze and attack any I get as I've decided it is the best way to do it.

I'm going to have to get some of the Black Ointment to give it a try. I assume you carry it?

Pamela - I do supplements i.e. herbs, Mag Oil, etc. 6 days & rest the 7th. For an ongoing problem like the MC I would do it for the 6 days also. For anything urgent that required infection control (I use X-Ceptic btw) I would do this regardless of the days. Infection, like compounding interest, never takes a holiday!

Rose - yes I do. After squeezing my g-dau's I use the X-Ceptic to cut any infection. I never heard of them until she got them recently. Once I popped out the core thing, there has not been any recurrances in that area. As for "letting it go" - live happens!! We all lose track of time. From what I read it is mosly a childhood condition but the adult VD makes perfect sense - why not? LOL! I chose the Black Ointment when I read the standard treatment is to wait for YEARS for them to go away on their own. I don't think so!! For the 50+er I would put it on his leg twice a day, wrap it up and see what happens! You have nothing to lose here! After all, if it stains his sheets, what's MORE LAUNDRY? sorry

Joan, would you give us a link to the black ointment - I spent 10 minutes on your site, but wasn't able to find it and no search option.

So, I don't need to worry about the stuff touching the healthy skin? I did get some Mollussca RX off the net but it takes so long and the smell is so strong. It helped my oldest some. He had a TON on the insides of his legs. He got them at the same time he had a fever rash and scratched and spread, etc. He was a mess. I could tell the new ones didn't have the steam new ones usually had and they went away quickly. It also seems to dry up my little guys but takes weeks of being consistent. What happened is the smell became so strong to me I was getting headaches then it would keep me awake at night...sigh. My oldest now has only a few left, I think he purged them quickly out of his system but it sure was a miserable way to do it! He was a mess. What I've found is they do seem to go from area to area. On a few of the kids I've followed them around a bit. They also multiply quickly when the immune system is compromised. Especially when the kids had a fever...overnight there were tons. Not much we could do about it.

I was amazed when I googled this and started reading the bulletin boards. A LOT of adults have MC and against their best efforts it sticks around for a long time. The prevailing advice is to leave it alone but the further I go with this the more I disagree. After many struggles the lengths the posters go to to get rid of this is really something. One guy describes how to burn them out yourself at home. It involves getting dry ice, shattering it into little shards, taking a sliver in your gloved hands or tweezers and burning each spot yourself until its black. Um...wouldn't work on my boys!

And, yeah...what's more laundry?? I wait to wash their sheets until theres a reason anyway as one usually comes up!!
