I just can't get Balance Sequence down
I am really getting frustrated with myself. Balance Sequence...
Ok, On INs #1 when she first explains how to do balance (Just lifting the leg), TT says to put all weight on supporting leg which should be bent, KLT and tuck the booty, and pivot the swinging toes.
Anytime I bend, tuck, KLT....and then try to swing my leg, I always lose my tuck. I try to keep it tucked, but I can't. If I do keep it tucked, I'm not bending and KLT on the supporting leg. I understand it is about using core muscles, but how is it possible??? I am able to tuck as I come down from it, but not going up. [V]
I will add that once I did do the swings in bent, tuck, KLT, pivot positions, but my swinging leg wasn't in alignment with my body -it was more like in front of my body.

Consider not trying to raise your leg so high. I barely get my leg 2 inches off the ground but that's ok b/c I maintain the tuck. It's not how high you get your leg, it's that working of the abs as you raise your leg and keep butt tucked.

Thanx Ally. I am trying to get my leg up there, so maybe that is the problemo.
So, you are sure that even if I only get my leg up 1-2 inches I will still benefit from this move?
How long should it take before I can get my leg up there? In my sad case it will probably take 5 years. [V]

It will increase over time as you get stronger. No worries.
Yes it's still effective. Do a couple of the leg swings not in T-Tapp stance at all. Just don't tuck and swing your leg up there. Do you feel that working anything? No. Could probably do that all night, right? Not what we want.
Now do it in T-Tapp stance where you only go as far as you can before you sense you are about to lose the tuck. Feel it in the abs, saddlebags, glutes, etc etc, right? Ok so yep it's effective. Make sure you are pushing thumb into thumbhole to really get that tuck working too.
Just keep Tapping...just keep Tapping...

OLOHA - another thing to think about is not everyone has the same body type. Some people will have no trouble at all getting their leg up but others no matter how long they have been tapping will never get it as high as T does in the video. Just go to your max and you'll be working thoose abs!

If you're a super ST like me, you may as well hang it up[
] If I get my legs even shoulder width apart I'm doing good and that would only be about 2" off the floor.

Really REACH out with your arms, it helps with balance.

it took me til tampa to feel the difference in the lifting leg: when you're doing it correctly, you'll feel the lifting leg on the outside of the thigh, incorrectly in the inner thigh.
Only go as high as you can without losing your tuck/lats back/straight arm tight/bent arm aiming elbow back & either palm on butt with stiff(jazzed) fingers or thumb in thumbhole of lower back & standing leg bent & KLT'd. If you can remember to lift your ribs up, tummy in, head up & roll shoulders back & down to reset the lats, you got the whole shebang.
pigeon toe the lifting leg like you're aiming your outer heel on the upswing to the ceiling. visualizing it helps no matter how low or high you go.
keep movin'..the path shows up behind you...

just to echo the ladies.... i am a combo/borderline short torso, and it would be impossible for me to EVER get my leg as high as T's without losing my butt tuck.... even if i tapped for a million years. the point is that you are tuck tucking, not how high you can go.
that's actually irrelevent. it's the act of going to your max, tucking. and keeping that toe forward (thing pidgeon toe). it took me awhie to figure out how to do balance without losing tuck, but i eventually got it. i would say my foot comes 6" to a foot off the ground.
