    Default Kefir detox?

I have been drinking about 1/2 cup in the morning for 5-6 days with no ill effects, i.e. no detox. The only noticeable change is that I sleep very heavily at night. Am I drinking enough? Do I want to experience some detox effect? How do I know the Kefir is doing its job in me if I feel no difference? Should I drink it at night after the day's dining?

Depending on your previous diet, you may or may not notice a detox. You can up your kefir to 1-2 cups a day, though. Drinking some after dinner makes it a nice little dessert. Not sure about the positive or negatives about *when* to drink it.

gr8fisch - I'm looking for the decrease in interest in sweets, and for the bloated abdomen to go away. Can't wait for that!

Lori, I wonder if I should drink it right after dinner, like a dessert, or wait until after I've exercised and just before bedtime. I don't have a mental problem with either one except that when reading about [u]Mastering Leptin</u>, it says eat nothing after dinner, would kefir constitute someone you "eat"? Maybe I'm being too picky, but I want to give the kefir a true chance to work for me.

If you are following ML, I'd drink it soon after dinner, still considered part of dinner. Kefir is carb so earlier in the evening the better even if not following ML. I drink it in the morning, part of my breakfast and if I want more, I drinkit as an afternoon snack.

I have enjoyed drinking mine at breakfast because I find that it keeps me very satisfied for a while, and it goes in on an "empty stomach" and that just makes me feel like it can really get in there and start doing its job and prepare for the digesting of food that will happen later. I might just be making that up, but that is what I like to imagine is happening!

The very first day I drank kefir I got very tired and felt sluggish for a few hours, but if that was detox, that was the only detox I felt. It did, by the way help lots with my bloating and with curbing my appetite.

    Good luck!

I would suggest first thing in the morning and I would use it as my only breakfast so I would do 10-16 oz instead of 1/2 a cup. Whatever would fill you up..mine holds my appetite with water in between to 1 or 2 o'clock. I would also suggest desert so it keeps you from eating in the evening. Let me know what you are eating for the rest of the day. I try to eat only veges, protein, and some fruits after that. If you are eating processed foods, sugar, soda or any of the bad stuff, you might not get the same reaction. I was not perfect in my eating habits, though, and it still worked for me. I know when my doctor first *prescribed* probiotics, he recommended them on an empty stomach, but also said don't NOT take them if you can't do it on an empty stomach, because you will still get some of the benefits.

I take a fiber drink in the morning when I get up - they say to take that on an empty stomach. Do you think I could get away with having the kefir first thing and maybe take the fiber at lunch? I just want to get all the great benefits out of kefir that I can!

Marnie, I'm with you. Let's get all the benefits we can!

Usually I just eat whole grain cereal (dry) with raisins for breakfast as I commute to work. But even just 1/2 c of Kefir in the morning has made me feel too full for even the cereal, Debbie. My diet is largely based on convenience so I'm very surprised that I haven't experienced any detox. Maybe I'm just not drinking enough. So, I guess I'll just up my input and see if that makes a difference. So far, I still have my sweet tooth and the bloated stomach.

Farra, I can picture the little critters in there cleaning up from the party the night before - that's quite a visual!

Thanks, all of you, for your input.

    Gwen
