    Default airborne vs zicam?

I am coming down with the first bug of the season. [B)]Have never used airborne or zicam, but bought both of them yesterday. Edited to specify I got the zicam quick melt tablets, not the nose swab gel.

I wonder if it'd be ok to use the airborne in the morning & zicam in the evening? Or should I just stick to one product?

Also, does anyone actually take it every 3 hours like the pkg says?

    Thanks for your thoughts!

    Gina

I've never used Airborne but use the Zicam swabs regularly. Did you get the swabs or the spray? I use the swabs I think 3 or 4 times a day when I am in the fighting mode.

    Hi Gina,

I've used both the Airborne and the Zicam. I just liked the taste of the Airborne much better so I stuck with that one.

I only take it every three hours if I feel like I'm coming down with something or if I'm really concerned because I was around someone who was really sick.

Now, I didn't know that Zicam has swabs......I had used the "chewy" ones....

I hear that airborne is a great product and I do have some of the 'gummy ones' coming for the children.

I know someone who takes the fizzy airborne tablets and she swears by them. I have even heard some celebs touting airborne and have heard of people saying it is great for a hangover too - but, I have yet to try it personally.

Hope you feel better soon ...

If you use the ZiCam, you need to use it every 4 hours as listed on the package or it's not gonna work. Also, since you got the tablets, you need to make sure you take in on a "clean" mouth (nothing but water in your mouth for AT LEAST 15 minutes before and after). And I haven't used that form, so I don't know if it works as well as the gel. They're not a homeopathic company and the gel is the only one I know that works.

I have a friend who swears by the Airborne, but when I read the ingredients, my ol' nemesis Partially Hydrogenated Fat showed up, so I headed for the hills. I noticed Airborne's major ingredient was echinacea, so I just bought some of that instead - and it works great!

Another wonderful thing is Traditional Medicinals Echinacea Plus tea, and I've seen echinacea teas for kids out there, too. But you could use the regular one and just add a little honey - it tastes good!

Oh, you're kidding! I can't believe it -that stuff shows up everywhere! Now I'm really bummed because Airborne's been the only thing I've found to really work. The Zicam gel that you squirt and rub in the nose only works if you keep taking it religiously and it ends up irritating my nose so much I end up getting sick anyway. The Airborne I found also only worked if you take it at least 3 or 4 times a day... I've tried just echinacea in the past and it did not work for me. I've tried taking echinacea, another herb (can't remember...??), mega vitamin C, and zinc lozenges all in conjunction and I would still get sick, but taking the Airborne really seemed to work for me so I now swear by the stuff... but, yeah, hydrogenated fats... actually I don't see that listed in the ingredients...???

You can read the ingredients at their website http://www.airbornehealth.com/ and I don't see any partially hydrogenated anything listed there..???

I SWEAR by Airborne. I fortunately (now I am going to Jinx myself) have not had a cold since January 2005!! I remember because it was a heck-uv-a cold. I used to get sick every 3 months or so. I started taking organic apple cider vinegar (1 TBS) every morning in 8 oz of water with stevia, and I have not been sick since. Apple cider vinegar will also help if you have eaten anything off as it will combat food posining. If I start to feel the least bit like a cold might be coming on I use Airborne, and I do it religously for that first day (eveyr 3 hours) and again those two things combined must be working. My husband had a cold last week and I took some Airborne at night (also almost forgot that emergenc-C in the packets that you drink with water) so to recap, daily apple cider vinegar (only for the Brave!), Airborne or Emergen-C if I feel symptons.

Now let me find some wood to knock.

You know what, Zopear, YOU'RE RIGHT![:I] It wasn't my normally-objected-to ingredient, transfats - it's SUCRALOSE![}] And Mineral Oil and Other Sugar Substitutes that I didn't like. Here's the base:

Other Ingredients: Citric Acid, Sodium Bicarbonate, Sorbitol, Potassium Bicarbonate, Natural & Artificial Orange Flavor, Mineral Oil, Sucralose, Acesulfame Potassium.

Sucralose I avoid like the Plague (it's becoming well-known for killer migraines and skin rashes) and I don't trust the acesulfame potassium. The reason I don't like mineral oil is because it binds to the fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) and makes them inaccessible. So all that nice vitamin A and E in the Airborne is there, but your body can't use it, arggh! The only thing mineral oil is good for is lubing machine parts, not body parts! (So this goes for the skin, too - we absorb nutrients through the skin.)

Good supplementation can keep your immune system strong and avoid cold; I don't remember the last time I had one. (You may e-mail me to info on what I take.)

Another wonderful thing for your immune system are coconut and palm oils - they are high in lauric acid, which is antiviral, antifungal, and antimicrobial. Chicken soup, aka "Jewish penicillin" is truly good for colds because chicken fat itself is antimicrobial. (This is why I cook the veggies and chicken in my chicken soup in expeller-pressed coconut oil - it's a one-two punch.) Also, if your soup is nice and salty (use good sea salt or Vege-Sal), that too will help perk you up, because our adrenals need salt when we're feeling washed-out.

But when you notice a cold starting, I still recommend echinacea tea. If you're feeling tired and need a pick-me-up, get a flavor of Emergen'C you like and drink a couple. You will feel perked up because the vitamin C supports the adrenal glands and the minerals help too. (Great reminder, Martha!)

Gina, hope you feel better soon! But we're all learning from your thread!
