Default Sleeping on the left or right side?

Does it matter if you sleep on the left side or right?
Do you get a better restful sleep on one or the other side?
    Does it matter?
    Any suggestions?

I honestly can't see how it would matter.

At least, it certainly doesn't for me.

P-L-A-Y Come on, push it. You can do it.
    Just tapp already, would ya?!?

Oddly enough, my “presleep” position is on my left, and my “sleep” position is on my right side. I do tend to get a better night sleep on my right side, or even on my back.

Or, did you mean the left side or right side of the bed?

I have acid reflux and notice that I sleep better on my right side. Can't give you a scientific reason why, though!

Regina, take digestive enzymes with your meals; if this doesn't help, then take HCl with betaine. Believe it or not, acid reflux comes from not enough stomach acid! If there's not enough stomach acid, the food ferments, causing it to sort of bubble back up the esophagus, causing burning.[B)]

In the meantime, make sure you're getting enough salt (the Cl in NaCl is used to make HCl) - and make it a good mineral sea salt like the Celtic type (there was a good salt discussion on the Nutrition forum), and also take a good multivitamin. Our bodies use B vitamins and salt to manufacture stomach acid. If you'd like my recommendation on a multivitamin, please e-mail me!

Regarding salt, some like the Himalayan (a beautiful pink color), the Redmond salt from Utah is good, and if you can afford the Rolls-Royce of all salts, then by all means invest in some French Celtic salt (it'll run you around $11 a bag for the finely-ground kind).

The reason I'm recommending this over regular Morton's-type table salt is that the supermarket salt is 99.99% NaCl, while the better sea salts run around 89% NaCl, the remainder being trace minerals in the ratios they are found in in nature.

Renata, didn't mean to take over your thread, but I couldn't pass it up! I would say sleep in the position that gives you the deepest sleep, and only you can tell that.

    Blessings on your day,

    Helena

Doesn't matter because we all shift around in our sleep about a zillion times, don't sleep with your face on your hands though - you'll encourage wrinkles :-)

well, I don't think it matters UNLESS you are doing a liver cleanse, then you want to sleep on your left side to drain the gall bladder easier.

Sleeping on your left side is better. It allows the blood to easily flow back to the heart. It also lowers your blood pressure. I was a right side sleeper and had to switch when I was pregnant last year. The dr. wanted me on my left side as much as possible.

What is most important is not to sleep twisted. I used to sleep with my hips twisted and partially on my tummy. It really throws your body out of alignment. Also to sleep on your side make sure your shoulders are square and you have a good pillow to keep your spine straight. (this information from my chiro)

Hi there!, I dont know if the following information may help you , but I'll share what I have learnt as a school kid in my yoga class.

We were always encouraged to lie down or recline on our left side for about 15 minutes after a meal.

In the morning, just before waking up, to roll over to our right side, and lie for about 5 to 10 minutes.

What this really does is you would observe that when you are lying on your left side your right nostril is active, while your left one remains passive. It translates as to which side of the brain is kept active during that time. And vice versa.

You can observe for yourself while you're up and moving about, only one nostril stays active. They keep alternating throughout the day at different times.

Lying on the left side definitely aids digestion because most of your digestive organs benefit by gravity when you lie on your left.

Well this might sound weird, (but I am, so eh..)

My sister and I, my parents noted when we were younger, would always sleep in the same position. Different cribs, whatever, same position, curled or not on same side. Even as teenagers sharing a pull out sofa at a friend's house we were in the identically same position.

Now that we're states away (me in MO she in UT) we still discuss and think we're on the same side. I sometimes feel myself have the urge to roll over and I blame her.

But that's the only weird twin thing we have I think.
