    Default Syrup Smell?

Now this is a weird question admittedly but you all should know how weird I am by now so here goes....

My hands have been smelling of syrup lately and I am not eating or handling syrup. Does that make any sense? Even after I wash my hands...it's like the syrupy smell is just emanating from my pores. I mean it's pleasant, hey it's syrup after all, so not like a bad odor issue, I just think it's weird. My soap is peppermint so it's not my soap and this is before applying any lotion. It's coming from the inside, I think. What can that mean? Am I eating too much sugar?

I remember hearing somewhere that people with diabetes have a certain scent that is detectable. Is it a sweet smell? Wonder why this is...not worried, it's just odd. I don't have diabetes and my blood sugar is always fine but wonder if this is some sort of indicator of something. Thanks for any input.

smelling like syrup???? [?] well, you are awfully darn sweet [}]

there is a metabolic disorder that when people sweat is smells like molasses or syrup (I forget which) but it is extremely rare and I can't imagine that's what is going on with you.

Have you been eating something different or new lately??? Have you been taking your Alfalfa?

Maybe lay off some of the MM stuff and eat some more GM and see if it goes away. Very strange.

Not that I am aware of, no. I only take T's Alfalfa and Fibertox, Noni and a multi that doesn't have that. Would that make one smell of syrup? It's still there today, I swear. [}]

    General Discussion

Maple Syrup Urine Disease (MSUD) is an extremely rare inherited metabolic disorder characterized by a distinctive sweet odor of the urine and sweat. It is a serious disorder that, unless treated promptly and correctly, can be life threatening. Therapy must be started at the earliest possible age to achieve the best results. MSUD is manageable, just as diabetes is manageable, but care and attention must be given to diet and to the treatment of even minor illnesses.

Symptoms develop because the body is unable to break down (metabolize) three of the essential amino acids, leucine, isoleucine, and valine. They are essential because they are used by the body to build proteins, and they are three of 11 amino acids that must be obtained as part of the daily diet since the body cannot synthesize them. These three amino aids share a common characteristic of chemical structure and are thus known as the branched chain amino acids (BCAAs). An affected newborn will present with abnormally high concentrations of acidic metabolic by-products of the BCAAs in the blood and other tissues (metabolic acidosis) that, if left untreated, may lead to seizures or coma, and may be life-threatening.

Genetically, there appear to be three forms of the disorder: IA, IB, and II. Clinically, at least four forms are described, to which some clinicians add a fifth.

I thought you might want to look into it.

I found that on the internet too and I don't think I have that disease. Not to share too much but my pee doesn't smell like syrup, just my hands for some reason. This sounds pretty rare and occurs mostly in children. I haven't always been like this, just recently. My sweat smells like sweat too, not syrup. Just thought it might be something someone else had noticed too or have some correlation to diabetes since my dad has that. I'll have to ask him what he smells like. Lol. I remember reading that some diabetics have a certain smell and I didn't remember if it was sweet or what.

Maybe it's just some combo of my toiletries. [?] I'm not going to worry about it, just thought it was weird. Thanks though.
