I started Callanetics in 1987. It's like the Lotte Berk method which is like Pilates, the Bar Method which uses a ballet barre; they're all sort of connected with ballet, the mainstay of the form & core of the workouts. And they all use some form of Yoga with regards to lengthening muscles, balance, breathing, endocrine system activation & focus. Callanetics, similar to Tapping, develops the core, but it too, like Lotte Berk, uses a barre or heavy piece of furniture to augment the static poses & the isometric movements. Yes you're building strength & focusing on form & core muscles; yes like Pilates you're stretching, lengthening & loosening joints, ligaments, finetuning alignment & developing neurokinetic connections with Callanetics, & with Tapping, there's additional 'traditional' moves like bicep & tricep curls, lunges, plies, walking, while using your own body's resistance, not weights, which Callanetics doesn't use, & greater attention to form and aerobic, i.e., over-the-head action with a static base (t-tapp twist, tempo arms, etc.) and vice versa, a static torso & a moving base (hit the floor, balance, etc.). For me, Callanetics & Pilates are most like ballet & stretching routines, Tapping is most like yoga, weight lifting & aerobics.

The main difference, in my opinion, is that Callanetics is a form of exercise that gets boring after a short period of time. You also have to keep counting, and counting....AND COUNTING! T-Tapp is much more interesting, has more moves, and simply works more muscles. I did like Callanetics when I did it; however, the boredom always caused me to stop after about 2-3 months.
I love Callanetics and the Bar Method, but when I did those forms of excercise before Tapping, I still had to do cardio along with Callanetics or the Bar Method. With T-Tapp, I can get it all done in one shot, and now dont have to work out every day!
