ID:	2943It’s not everyone’s favorite topic but researchers at Harvard are really into mucus. Most of us think of mucus as going hand-in-glove with cold and flu season. In some ways that’s true. We usually have an increase in infections during the winter because there are more of us inside and in smaller spaces than usual. That makes it easier for us to exchange germs.

If you take preventative measures and build up your immune health, you’ll find that you breeze through the sneeze season. My favorite supplements are Emergen-C, vitamin B-6, and NAC. Each of these is great on its own but together they are much more powerful – they work synergistically. I’ve written about these quite a bit in the past but Julie at Bailey’s Naturals has created a great package for keeping healthy. What’s great about Julie is that she will let you order just a week’s worth if you’re going to be aroundlots of people or you need to get over the hump of being under the weather. I take all three of these all the time to keep my immune system well-fortified.

I’ve also found another product for the digestive tract which accounts for about 70% of our immune system response. I’ve been using Brenda Watson’s Renew Life IntestiNew. This powder literally rebuilds the mucosal lining of the digestive tract.

You see, mucus has its place! Mucus helps protect the lining of our entire digestive tract to protect it from our highly acidic stomach acids. Mucus is an immune system response. But we know that just like inflammation – prolonged out of balance mucus production turns from being protective to beinga precursor to disease. Scientists have found that excess mucus can contribute to certain types of cancer. There are also some natural practitioners that feel that dandruff is actually the shedding of excess mucus from the scalp and indicates too much build up in the head and brain. (You can use cell salts to rebalance your body too .)

Our bodies send us so many signals but we’ve lost touch with what they mean! T-Tapper Jane Babcock alerted meto an interesting book: Understanding the Messages of Your Body Jean-Pierre Barral, D.O.. Dr. Barral explains the many connections in the body and the emotions stored in our tissues and organs and how red flags from our bodies often signal problems but we don’t know how to connect the dots.

Restore and balance your body…and avoid problems. You can always contact Julie by phone (727- 725-1617), she’s a huge part of my go-to-team for staying healthy in stressful times. So many of those over the counter medications (Mucinex – I’m thinking of you!!!) can have other side effects that are almost worse than the “cure” and every pharma drug seems to have a side effect that demands another drug. Try a natural course first!

    Teresa,
Was stuck in a few airports this week. Re-read some sections of Jean-Pierre Barral's book. Page 8 - "Because joints, muscles, and ligaments share certain nerve centers with particular organs, irritation in an organ can cause a problem in a joint. The inverse also applies: a problem in a joint can set off a problem in an associated organ. Treating either component will help to bring about greater health in the person. Treating both aspects will ensure optimal well being."
