Neuro-kinetic Flow for Successful Inch Loss and Spot Reduction

May 30, 2000

News: Upcoming Fitness Retreats have been secured for fall! September 7th - 10th will be held at the prestigious Cooper Aerobics Institute in Dallas, Texas and October 19th - 22nd will be held at the Belleview Biltmore Resort & Spa in Clearwater, Florida. Each event has limited availability so be sure to secure a spot if interested. I have a place on www.t-tapp.com (http://www.t-tapp.com/) where you can "pre-register" without deposit so I can determine how many rooms to secure. Cost is still only $999 per person (not including flight) and you can save $250 by sharing a room. Check the Article section (www.t-tapp.com/articles (http://www.t-tapp.com/articles)) this Monday (6/5) for description of previous fitness retreats at Belleview Biltmore.

Update on Wenonah: http://www.t-tapp.com/mommyfitness/wenonah/ - she has lost a total of 13 inches and 8 lbs in 4 weeks doing T-Tapp Total Workout at Beginner/Rehab level. She has been posting pictures and measurements weekly and provides a message forum for T-Tappers to interact and share results/motivation. Keep up the good work Wenonah! You are doing great!

Contest Winners: Congratulations to Renee McCray, Taja MacConnell, Miriam Quigley and Edona White who receive their choice of Target Pop Videos Primary Back Stretch for neuro-kinetic fat burning/inch loss or Balance Sequence for inner core metabolic rate and outer thigh slimming. Congratulations to Jill Ross and Kathy Gilmer who receive their choice of Mini Max Workouts 1, 2, 3 or 4. These videos are concentrated T-Tapp Workouts without any instruction or breaks and have new and/or advanced movements. Each is less than 30 minutes, but each deliver a full body workout. Winners please email your selection or call 1-800-342-0717. Five more winners will be selected on June 10th. Be sure to re-register since names do not carry forward. Winners, if you win a video you already own, you may choose whatever Target Pop or Mini Max Video you desire.

Neuro-kinetic Flow for Successful Inch Loss and Spot Reduction: Primary factor in obtaining successful inch loss and/or spot reduction is "neuro-kinetic flow". Many women take "thermogenic" supplements to increase rate of weight loss/fat reduction, but it isn't necessary to stimulate the central nervous system to increase rate of neuro-kinetic transmission – it can be done naturally. Besides, not everyone can take thermogenic stimulants such as ma huang, ephedra, caffeine, kola nut, or guarana seed. These products can cause irregular heartbeat and heart palpitations – especially in A and AB blood types. In fact, I suggest that anyone who is sensitive to caffeine NOT take thermogenic metabolic enhancers.

What is Neuro-kinetic Flow? "Neuro" means neurological – "nerve transmission" from the brain. "Kinetic" comes from Kinesiology (study of muscle movement) and deals with muscle fiber function. Neuro-Kinetic flow is the pattern of nerve transmission from the brain through the spine to the extremities. With any muscle movement, our brain gives the initial signal (nerve transmission) to stimulate muscle fibers to contract. Contraction of muscle fibers allows muscle(s) to move bone(s) as desired. Thermogenics increase nerve stimulation to muscles BUT instead of increasing stimulus why not open the transmission channel?

Our spinal cord is the primary vessel for all nerve transmission but unfortunately most women cross their legs, stand on one hip, and/or talk on the phone with the receiver cradled between neck and shoulder. And we wonder why we're all "kinked" up with neck tension and back aches! Well, in addition to tense muscles, if our vertebrae are not in anatomical alignment, our spinal cord can become compressed and decrease of stimulus can occur. It only makes common sense that if there is a decrease in flow of nerve stimulation to muscle fibers then less glucose/glycogen will be used with involuntary muscle movement and less fat burning shall occur with active muscle movement. Our bodies have the ability to function within less than perfect conditions. It functions under stress, malnutrition from improper eating/dieting, drug/alcohol abuse and sleep deprivation. It even has the ability to function with only one lung, kidney, eye, or ear. In fact, it has been reported that with loss of one organ, the other organ increases optimal function.

But... "If you don't use it, you'll lose it". I believe it is important to stimulate and maintain primary body functions for overall health, wellness, and weight management. The secret to success centers on our core!

When neuro-kinetic flow isn't clear, it's like watering a flower garden with a kinked hose. You still have the ability to deliver necessary water to the flowers to grow but it takes longer. This principle applies to the spinal cord as well – when neuro-kinetic flow is clear, more muscle mass receives stimulation so more glucose/glycogen/fat is burned – even at rest! Resting glucose utilization rate is another untold secret to successful weight loss/management. Full neuro-kinetic flow enables the body to have higher glucose usage at rest.

How to open Neuro-kinetic Flow: I created a movement called Primary Back Stretch that stretches the spinal column into correct anatomical alignment and will burn off any excess stored glucose. Primary Back Stretch enables the body to enter fat burning mode in half the time. Normally it takes 20 minutes of standard aerobic exercise before burning stored fat... BUT if you do Primary Back Stretch, your body will start to burn fat within 10 minutes. When doing PBS, you can "feel" heat literally go through the spine on out through the extremities. The more clear neuro-kinetic flow becomes, the more you'll feel heat flow into your hands/feet. Furthermore, this enables the body to achieve faster results in muscle density development and inch loss.

The secret to successful weight loss/management involves more than ratio of how many calories are consumed to how many calories are burned. Base metabolic rate is important (based on quantity of muscle mass), but resting glucose rate is just as important, if not more.

I utilize neuro-kinetic flow throughout each movement in all T-Tapp workouts. Every detail is important - concentrate to point/flex, turn out, and roll out, etc. to get optimal results. These details involve neuro-kinetic flow. For example, concentrate to point/flex feet at full force when doing Awesome Legs (featured free at www.t-tapp.com/articles (http://www.t-tapp.com/articles)). Pointing and flexing will pull nerve transmission all the way to end of foot. If the foot is relaxed, your muscles do not receive benefits of full nerve transmission, which is fat burning! Same reason it's important to press ankles together as leverage to fully push out knees during the "bend for two extend on up" section of Awesome Legs. Neuro-kinetic flow will increase at both insertions of quads, hamstrings, and gluteal muscles down to tips of toes.

This is the same reason it is very important to push the heel lower than the toes whenever flexing foot. Besides pushing heel down, it is necessary to "pull" toes upward for full neuro-kinetic benefits. When done correctly you should feel tension in the "shin". Focus on keeping same foot position during the balance sequence and each time you do a lateral leg raise, lead with the heel of the foot (in other words pigeon toe inward as you begin to lift leg laterally). By doing so, you will experience faster inch loss on outer saddlebag and hip pad area, as well as create inner core density quickly.

To stimulate neuro-kinetic flow is also why I involve a twist of the wrist during arm movements and keep hands in a tight fist. Another reason for the twist of the wrist is to utilize isometric isolations and comprehensive, compound muscle movement... as discussed in previous two newsletters.

But it still centers on the core... do Primary Back Stretch before any workout to capitalize on full neuro-kinetic benefits. It will make any workout more effective – even housework! Primary Back Stretch is explained on Instructional #1 of the T-Tapp Total Workout, but it is also available on a Target Pop Video for only $19.95. This five-minute movement sequence also stimulates the lymphatic system, increases circulation, boosts mental clarity, and increases metabolic rate as well as burn glucose reserves. Neuro-kinetic flow is the basic for a better body that enables you to work smarter, not harder and longer.

Next newsletter will cover the importance of linear alignment in achieving successful inch loss and spot reduction... linear alignment is another one of my "basics for a better body."

Best wishes until the 10th of June,

Teresa Tapp
