'Tis the season for T-Tapp Tips

December 22, 1999

It’s hard to believe that Christmas is just around the corner and that we are on the final countdown for New Year celebrations and resolutions. I've been so busy trying to keep up with deadlines that I haven't done any holiday baking (maybe that's a blessing in disguise since I love cookies, cakes and anything chocolate) and I'm still in the process of decorating! I thought that perhaps all of you would enjoy an assortment of quick tips that might be helpful during these final social days of celebration with friends, family and good food.

Play Holiday Music

First of all, play holiday music whenever you can, especially when eating. Choose something slow and soothing like Nat King Cole's “Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire” to lower stress and increase willpower around Christmas cookies. Studies show that you'll actually eat less. Play holiday music while driving to stifle any possibility of “road rage” (works great while trying to find a parking place at the mall!). Singing along adds additional benefit - both mentally and physically... no need to be shy, no one can hear you! Play holiday music while doing housework. Something like “Jingle Bells” or “Rocking Around the Christmas Tree” will elevate your mood, burn more calories and increase efficiency (use this one when having your children do the dishes).

Holiday Make-up Tips

Add sparkle to holiday make-up and holiday hair. Just use “Fruit of the Earth Aloe Gel” and any type of glitter. Dip eyeliner brush in aloe gel, then glitter and apply line on outer third of upper eyelid for dramatic evening eyes. Another popular treatment using glitter with aloe is to add “dots” as an extension of the outer corner. Madonna and Janet Jackson used this in their music videos to draw attention to their eyes and they also added “dots” in the inner corners of their eyes. Experiment to perfect your own look. With holiday hair, use the same technique. Dip brush into aloe gel and glitter, then paint highlights on hair. Works great on ringlets that frame the face and layered sections. Don’t worry, the glitter and aloe combo washes out easily and doesn't damage the hair.

Draw attention to eyes with curled eyelashes that stay curled. Use a blow dryer to heat eyelash curler prior to curling lashes. Curl before applying mascara. Practice curling eyelashes before heating and be careful not to burn your skin.

Keep mascara from smudging under eyes by applying translucent powder to tips of upper and lower eyelashes.

Keep hair 'up' all night; never be 'flat' again. Spray Extra Hold hair spray (non-aerosol) onto edge of bathroom sink (for application control and easy cleanup), dip fingertips into hair spray, and then rub onto scalp/ roots of hair. Spray more onto fingertips and drag through hair to texturize. If scalp gets oily easily, then dip eye shadow brush into translucent face power and apply along roots. For even stronger uplift/control, use clear mascara at roots. Also use Velcro curlers to set hair - spray fingertips, drag along section, then roll (with additional spritz at final inch of hair by scalp). Once all curlers are in place, blow dry at high for heat to “bake-in” the hold. Leave in curlers while doing make-up (this is how beauty contestants maintain perfect hair). I use Paul Mitchell Freeze and Shine Super Spray (used in modeling world since the 80's when hair was BIG) to keep lift and for final all over spray. I use a great new product by Redken called Guts for texturizing (works much better than mousse).

Use more than one color lipstick to create personalized lips. Outline with pencil, apply one base shade at corners, dip lip brush in another color and blend over from corners to center of lips, and then apply lightest color to center to finish. Try touching center of lower lip with a Q-tip dipped in sparkle eye shadow to create even more pout. Add gloss over all of this or just lower lip for final effect.

Have a problem keeping your lipstick on? Try these two tips. Apply base of Merle Norman Lip Treatment Crème before applying lipstick. Then seal with Lip-tex lip sealer. Merle Norman stores are practically in every mall, but the Lip-tex product isn't always available at the beauty supply stores. If you find it please email me with the store's telephone number because this is the BEST lip sealer of all (I think I've tried all of them - both in Europe and America) and it is no longer available in the Tampa Bay area. Whenever I go to California I try to stock up, but I'm on my last bottle! For those not familiar with this product - it is clear and brushes on like nail polish. It'll keep your lipstick in place no matter what (unless you receive an aggressive kiss under the mistletoe!)

Keep face matte without caking on face powder - especially important for those over 30! If you are over 30, make-up will settle into fine lines and make them look worse. Before applying powder, always blot with tissue first. Try oil blotting tissues by Mary Kay for even better results - they only lift the oil, not the make-up. I use these all the time, even when not wearing make-up they keep my face looking fresh. Plus, they are very inexpensive (only $1.50). I'm sure that you have a Mary Kay lady in your circle of friends or family, so give her a call.

Learn to Eat for Energy

A body with high energy burns more calories. When tired, choose a protein based snack or meal for more energy. Researchers have shown that protein boosts tryptophan levels in the brain to make you sharper. But, when you're wired and need to relax, have a carbohydrate-based snack or meal. Carbohydrates boost serotonin levels in the brain, a process that leads to relaxation. So eat protein (like almonds or hard boiled eggs) mid-afternoon to prevent common “3 pm slump”, not sugar!

Keep a snack size zip lock bag of raw almonds in your purse or car. Whenever you feel a carbohydrate attack coming on, consume 4 to 6 almonds first before eating those holiday goodies! Try doing the same when consuming alcoholic beverages, not only will it slow your body's release of insulin (the fat producing hormone), but it will also help you maintain higher energy and mental clarity. Check the Newsletter Archives to get more information regarding full benefits of almonds. During the holiday season of greater carbohydrate consumption, almonds are a necessity. I consume at least 15 to 20 per day and it is not uncommon for me to consume up to 30 at a party when I am drinking wine along with extra carbohydrate goodies (also helps keep alcohol “buzzed” effect from happening). Almonds are the perfect source of protein and good fat and have a high concentrate of magnesium (which keeps sugar cravings under control).

Keep Fresh Breath and a White Smile

Keep breath fresh/teeth white while attending all those parties! Just put WhiteBrite Teeth Whitening spray in purse size, refillable 0.25 oz perfume spritzer (found at most beauty supply stores). Not only is it an attractive way to freshen your breath, but also your teeth will maintain bright during the day or evening. Haven't you seen what happens after drinking red wine or a couple cups of holiday coffee? Just spray WhiteBrite into mouth and run tongue over teeth (like the 'Pearl Drop' commercials). Stay kissable for mistletoe moments even when consuming garlic goodies!

What to do the 'morning after' a big celebration

Start each day with 8 to 12 oz of water mixed with juice of one lemon or one tablespoon of lemon juice concentrate (do not sweeten). This unsweetened “lemonade” not only helps detox your body, but it will also boost your body's fat burning capacity. For super fat burning, eat grapefruit (don't sweeten), fresh pineapple, or strawberries for breakfast, and wait 2 hours until your next “mini meal”. I usually have eggs without toast, but a bowl of hot or cold cereal with low fat milk is good too. Try Spelt Flakes or Honey Puffed Kashi - tasty cereals that are healthy too!

How to Prevent and Get Rid of Dark Under Eye Circles

These usually occur after one too many parties or from continued stress - they result from B-12 deficiency. All you need to do is take B-12 Spray (the only other way to get B-12 absorbed is from intramuscular shots - PILLS DON'T WORK). Dark circles usually diminish or disappear within 2 or 3 weeks with just 8 daily sprays. When energy gets low during late night parties, spray 4 to 8 times and your body will “re-energize” within 2 to 3 minutes. For all night parties (like New Year's Eve) spray all night! It is non-toxic, water soluble and safe for all ages. Plus, you can't overdose on B-12 Spray and it won't interfere with any medications. It's absorbed through lining of mouth (spray on tongue or lining of cheek). Mayor Pharmaceutical Co. created this patented intra-oral spray and I bought a case of it for my T-Tapp Club members (well, for me too - I use it to keep my energy at premium). Each B-12 Spray contains 340 sprays and it's only the size of a marker, so it easily fits in a pocket or small cocktail purse. Plus, it’s better than coffee for keeping alert. Home Shopping Network featured this product 5 years ago and claimed it “would cure a hangover”. Well, I don't know about that, but I do know that it works better than coffee. It's also great when driving long distances (for those of you traveling to relatives or as a gift to a friend who works as a truck driver or taxi driver). Police officers love it! Discover the difference B-12 can make!

Well, I hope all of you have a wonderful Christmas. Enjoy this special time and share the spirit with family and friends (by all means, don't diet). Thanks for your support and for sharing with others about the T-Tapp System. May God continue to bless you throughout the New Year.

Be Happy, Be Healthy, Be Your Best!

Sincerely,

Teresa Tapp
