Hormonal Imbalance, Xenohormones, and Relief
August 23, 1999
What a weekend! I was one of 8 judges at the 1999 Women’s Tri-Fitness Regional Championship. Let me tell you, I saw some amazingly fit women ranging from age 15 to 46 from all over the world. These women competed in three events: Grace & Physique (i.e.: swimsuit), Obstacle Course Event, and Fitness Event (i.e.: choreographed fitness routine to music). It was very inspiring to see such “motivated women” - these were hard working athletes that are also working women, moms, college students and teenagers. In my opinion, all were winners as women striving to be their best. The event was recorded for future television exposure on ESPN, Foxsports, Fx, and American Health networks.
For this week’s tip, I thought some of you would like to hear about hormonal imbalance and what’s available for those seeking relief.
Up to one half of all women - and many men suffer from the symptoms of severe progesterone deficiency and estrogen dominance: depression, mood swings, unexplained weight gain, low thyroid, hair loss, headaches, foggy thinking, hot flashes, and loss of sex drive. While these symptoms are often associated with menopause, a number of these symptoms are also associated with hormonal imbalance. Dr. John Lee, the leading expert on natural progesterone supplementation, says that hormonal imbalance “most commonly represents an individual reaction to estrogen dominance, secondary to relative progesterone deficiency.” The causes are many and increase daily. Dr. Lee further states: “There is now clinical proof that as many as 50% of women in North America are severely deficient in progesterone by their early thirties and that during the menopausal years, progesterone levels decrease to almost zero while estrogen levels only decrease by 40% to 60%. When this hormonal imbalance occurs, the estrogen becomes toxic to the body. Treatment with a natural progesterone cream restores the balance between these two main female hormones, which eliminates the need for the use of dangerous synthetic hormones.”
Studies by Dr. Lee and other scientists prove that using a natural progesterone cream can result in a variety of additional benefits. These include improved brain function, stimulation of bone growth, improved sleep patterns, protection against breast cancer, normalizing of thyroid function and improved skin conditions such as acne seborrhea, Rosacea, psoriasis and keratoses.
Furthermore, recent clinical studies have proven natural progesterone’s role in the prevention and treatment of breast and uterine cancer. Dr. Lee covers this topic thoroughly in chapter 12 of his most recent book What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Premenopause.
Natural progesterone in a transdermal cream is, without a doubt, the safest, most effective way to supplement vital progesterone. But, not all progesterone creams are created equal. Many products promote themselves as “yam cream,” implying that they deliver the benefits of natural progesterone. The truth is that they contain only wild yam extract, which is not the same as the natural progesterone processed from yams. This distinction is important; natural progesterone is derived from wild yams through an exacting, often tedious scientific process, while yam extracts are relatively easy to obtain. This is why many manufacturers opt for the inexpensive extract instead of true natural progesterone. But yam extract is not progesterone, and it cannot deliver the benefits of progesterone.
Before using any progesterone cream, read the ingredients label. Be sure to avoid any creams that contain the following:
Propylene Glycol - an industrial anti-freeze used in most cosmetics and creams as a humectant. Avoid anything beginning with “propyl”, such as propylalcohol and propylparaben. P.E.G. (Polyethylene glycol), which is very similar to propylene glycol.
Mineral Oil - a derivative of petroleum, blocks the absorption of natural progesterone.
Glycerin dries the skin from the inside out. Vegetable glycerin is acceptable.
Paraben preservatives - including methyl-, proply-, and butyl-parabens, are toxic and allergenic.
Canola Oil, known as Rapeseed Oil, has recently been shown to be a hormone disrupter.
T-Tapp club member, Patti Behrens, introduced me to a natural progesterone cream, ProL’eve, which contains both progesterone (in expert-recommended levels of 480-500mg per ounce) and pregnenolone (the precursor your body needs to produce its own anti-stress, youth-associated hormones). This combination will deliver the greatest benefit in combating the symptoms of hormonal imbalance and progesterone deficiency. After suffering from hormonal imbalance for nearly two years, Patti finally achieved relief with ProL’eve. As a working mother of two boys (she is a corporate recreational therapist) and wife of a brilliant scientist (who has 2 patents and a third one pending on his brain tumor research), Patti could not and would not accept hormonal imbalance. Currently I don’t suffer from hormonal balance, but Patti pointed out to me that ProL’eve doesn’t just help establish hormonal balance but also helps protect us from xenohormones.
Xenohormones are synthetic chemicals that produce hormonal effects in all living creatures. Pesticides, herbicides, cosmetic emulsifiers, car exhaust, industrial waste, chemical solvents, and nearly all plastics are common sources of xenohormones. According to Dr. John R. Lee, author of What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause, xenohormones are disrupting the reproductive abilities and hormonal balance of all living things, including humans. And it’s not always through direct contact.
Xenohormones often work through something called the “Toxic Food Chain”. Petrochemical-based insecticides, herbicides, or fungicides are sprayed over a field of grain. Xenohormones are absorbed into the plants; some are washed into rivers and lakes. The livestock that feed on the grain and the fish that swim in the rivers and lakes ingest the xenohormones. The humans that consume the fish, chicken, beef, and pork are the final recipients of these unnatural and disruptive compounds. This affects every man, woman, and child, and makes a product such as ProL’eve essential for proper health and balance of our bodies’ hormones.
And remember that synthetic progesterone, such as Provera, is definitely not a solution for proper hormonal balance. The truth is, a molecule of Provera is not identical to a molecule of human progesterone - yet it produces a hormonal effect. This actually makes it a hormone disrupter! Who would want that? Just take a look at the Provera website and become educated after reading the list of side effects that occur from this supposedly “safe” form of progesterone.
ProL’eve natural progesterone cream is a botanical blessing of nature that cannot be duplicated with synthetic chemistry and manipulated molecules. In a sea of hormone disrupters, and in the face of multiple undesirable symptoms associated with hormonal imbalance, finally here is a product that offers relief, protection, safety, and health.
Women are speaking out after receiving relief from the following symptoms of hormonal imbalance: PMS/Mood Swings, Inability to Lose Weight, Vaginal Dryness, Foggy Thinking, Cramps, Breast Tenderness, Bloating, Post Natal Depression, Acne/Dry Skin, Hair Loss/Facial Hair, Hot Flashes/Night Sweats, Migraines/Headaches, Fibrocystic Breasts, Loss of Energy/Sex Drive, Endometriosis/Infertility, Female Related Cancers, Fibroid Tumors, Breast Feeding Problems, Osteoporosis/Arthritic Pain, and/or Loss of Memory.

Last of all, a news update regarding the Fitness Retreat in September. The 16-19th is booked, but since several of you still wanted to come for a fitness retreat, I have secured rooms at the very prestigious, elegant Belleview Biltmore Resort in Belleair, Florida for September 23-26th. This historical resort is located on the bluffs overlooking the Gulf of Mexico and has a golf course for those who are bringing their spouses (I received many requests for a golf course).
You still fly into Tampa Airport and take the Airport Limo to the Belleview Biltmore Resort. Everyone receives 3 spa treatments (hour massage, hour facial, and aroma therapy/hydrotherapy) along with two workouts Friday, Saturday and once Sunday morning. Thursday at 7:30pm is our welcome meeting whereby everyone gets a “goodie” bag with over $50 worth of products. The seminar on Friday night is a Sulfite-free wine tasting from 7-9:30pm and then on Saturday night I deliver a 1½ hour nutritional seminar with all types of food tasting. Special treat on Saturday evening is being able to taste some of Kera O’Connell’s tofu creations from her Soy'licious Recipe Book. (Her soy Alfredo Sauce is unbelievable and I love her chocolate peanut butter swirl tofu pops… yum!) Question/Answer period is usually a half hour, but last retreat everyone stayed until 11pm!!! Last of all, I will be introducing my special “Diva Derriere” movement formally known as “Bun Burners” - the most effective movement I ever created to get rid of saddlebags and uplift those derrieres to diva status!
