Liposome Technology for Supreme Topical Delivery & Sun Protection
June 21, 1999
Medical Science is an ongoing evolution and because of this I have always been interested in the latest clinical studies and research/development. Our bodies are complex machines that are consuming, digesting, assimilating and/or eliminating. Within this framework comes the question as to what is the best method of delivery for the body to assimilate - whether it is pharmaceutical or nutritional. Originally it was pills, then sublingual, intra-muscular shots, intra-oral sprays and last of all intra-venous injections. Ultimately the goal is to get to the cellular level. A lot of variance occurs due to individual bio-chemical and physiological factors. Advancement in this area was to use the skin, our largest organ, to assimilate. The “patch” was developed and suddenly side effects became minimal compared to oral ingestion. Well, now medical science has taken utilization of the skin one step further with the use of liposomes as a carrier into the skin.
Ten years ago I became familiar with liposome technology as a drug delivery system in clinical practice - being used to deliver cancer chemotherapeutic and anti-infective agents via intravenous administration. Liposome technology is often referred to as encapsulation. Encapsulation is also available in nutritional supplementation, but I’ll cover that topic on another tip of the week. I am excited to share with you the advancement in protection for our skin from the sun using liposome time-released delivery.
Superior sun protection is now available through Fountain Pharmaceuticals using both liposome and emulsion technology. Dr. Fountain patented this process and it is known as the SDMC (Solvent Dilution MicroCarriers) process or “LyphaZome” Technology. The Fountain LyphaZome is completely biocompatible and biodegradable, made from only ethanol and soybean lipids. LyphaZome soybean phospholipids have an exceptionally good track record with the FDA as being GRAS (Generally Regarded As Safe) materials. Ordinary liposomes used in OTC drugs and/or cosmetics are primarily composed of synthetically derived mixtures of lipids, sterols or chemically modified sterols, detergents, long-chain lipids or combinations of the above. If you would like a copy of Fountain Pharmaceutical’s actual patent documents (including examples and detailed description) just email your address and I will mail the five pages of information to you.
Fountain offers the only commercial process that produces liposomes of a uniform size, each ranging from 0.2 to 0.3 microns (or 1/50" the size of a human cell - for immediate penetration of the skin). It is generally believed that liposomes larger than approximately 0.5 microns will not penetrate.
Actually, LyphaZome Sunscreen is a high quality moisturizer formulated for the face and neck that has LyphaZome microspheres carrying both moisture and 30 SPF sunscreen into/within the skin. Previously only available in Europe, (produced in Switzerland and distributed in Germany under the name of “Day Long”), this is what the agencies told their models to wear daily under their make-up and on their necks to prevent accelerated aging from the sun. A 4-ounce bottle lasts about 2 months with daily application to face, neck and neckline.
LyphaZome Sunscreen immediately penetrates the skin, and then releases 30 SPF protection/moisture from within the skin for 8 hours - no matter how much you swim or sweat. In addition, LyphaZome Sunscreen maintains the 30 SPF factor throughout the full eight-hour period. Furthermore, Fountain Pharmaceutical designs its LyphaZome Sunscreen to achieve a therapeutic benefit as opposed to a purely cosmetic or marketing presence. To achieve this, much higher concentrations of liposomes are used maintaining a finished liposomal content of 30% or higher. Other products containing liposomes (from the cosmetic industry) usually contain less than 3-5%, and are with liposomes as opposed to liposomal. Check your labels - now you are an educated consumer!
After 18 months of negotiations, Fountain has agreed to allow my company to distribute their 8-hour time released sunscreen. They even have a distribution center in Florida, so I can offer the best price to you at $19.95 for 4-ounce (it has been sold through Dermatologists/Plastic Surgeons as high as $49.95).
I am still leaving for Europe in July, but I wanted to give you advance availability for use now. Those who order prior to July 1st will receive a 10% discount (with free 1-ounce bottle) or if you order two, will receive a 25% discount - one bottle for $18.00 or two for $30.00. Free shipping!
Here’s my personal testimonial on the effectiveness of this super sunscreen. Last summer I went to the Florida Keys on a 3-day “lobster” trip snorkeling 8-9 hours per day (trying to catch lobster). I used the SPF 15 formula on my entire body and never reapplied it. Normally I can’t stay in the sun longer than 3 hours without burning, but the LyphaZome sunscreen allowed me to swim all day without shade. It was unbelievable! It isn’t greasy and it doesn’t smell like a pina colada! (It’s actually unscented.) I use it daily to protect my neck from showing age (the fashion industry is unmerciful when it comes to how old a women’s neck looks) as well as on my face and back of my hands (another tell tale area of age!). My thin, English/Irish skin needs all the help it can get! Next week I will reveal another liposomal topical product that actually reverses aging of the skin and I’m thrilled to have discovered it while in Geneva, Switzerland last year!
Last of all, I wanted to let you know that the August issue of Women’s Fitness Magazine will be coming out July 7th. Hearst Publishing has decided to have an early release due to the increased demand - they are even boosting the circulation another 30,000! Awesome Legs (the exercise sequence that reverses bulky thighs) is demonstrated and this copyrighted movement is not on my current videos. It only takes 5 minutes a day and can be done alone or with the T-Tapp Workout. Introduced at the last fitness retreat (May 6-9th), it was a hit and gave additional inch loss to several of the attendees. I am hoping to offer it to you next week free, in advance, just for being part of the T-Tapp Tip of the Week. Most see results above the knee and inner/outer thigh within 7 to 10 days.
Until next week…
