View Full Version : How do I make SURE that I'm using correct form?

I went to Trisch's event in April and she helped me to focus more on form, but when I'm home doing my workout, it's hard to look in the mirror while I'm doing it. How do I know I am doing it right?
Also when I do Primary Back stretch, in the flat back part, am I supposed to still be in the "tuck butt" position? Not sure how to do both at the same time. :thinkingabout:
Thanks for your help in advance!

The best thing to do is Mirror or routinely video yourself while you exercise, and you will want to pose at different angle (at least front and side).
When you are in flat back, you don't tuck butt (forward pelvis tilt - retroversion), but you keep your core curl and you arch your butt (lardoiss) instead. Arch your butt is not arching your back to a concave, you are keeping your spine/back straight. Oh, keep your glute tight, abs tight and bend knees KLT.... Shoulder higher or level with hip.
Here, good tips from Michelle for curling the core: http://forum.t-tapp.com/showthread.php?74570-Help-experiencing-gain-when-had-losses&p=860220#post860220

Love those Curl Your Core Tips! :)
Donna, for me, I didn't have a mirror in a good place to work out in front of, either. So I would get in front of one and do a few moves, watching at first, then do it, stop and check, etc. I like to call it "getting a feel" for the form. For example, flat back in PBS. I found I was NOT as flat as I thought. I would get it flat while watching myself, then stand up, go into the flat back without watching and then check. After a few tries of getting it right I would really think about how everything felt.
Ayj is right-- a video is a great way to find out if you're doing it correctly away from the mirror! That's how I found out my core was NOT as curled as I thought it was (a little help from Michelle, too! LOL!)
Keep working at it but don't stress over it! It is a progression!

Then, when you think you have pretty good form, you can find one of the trainers to review your video if you cannot have a real personal session, and they will give you a written review to correct. Then, you can start improving your form all over again.

I feel like I'm saying thank you all the time lately, but THANK YOU again! I am so excited about this workout. It's the only workout that I've ever done that got results. And Teresa makes so much sense when she talks about linear alignment ~ and boy can I feel the difference! I did the Step Away the Inches today, wow, what a workout, and what an education into how the body really works when it's aligned the right way! :-) I've been walking ALL WRONG!!!
