I was curious about Sensa and if it really does help you to not eat so much. I saw the ingredients and it seems safe enough. I'm assuming it's fine while nursing, too, right? We eat those same things in ice cream, etc. LOL

Has anyone ever tried it?

Heather,

What are you eating that is too much during lactation? If you starve yourself, what are you using to nurse the baby? Breaking down your protein from bone, muscles and vital organs to enable lactation? Pregnancy and Lactation is the highest in nature's order, our DNA will breakdown anything we have in our body to enable fetus growth and laction. I don't mean to be gross.

Whatever you are eating too much of, are they refined carb? I don't think you are not eating a 16oz T-bone steak, and drinking 8 oz of EVOO.

If you don't eat enough to support your own cellular activities and lactation, your body will be in starvation mode, and it will act like a homeless and a packrat, whatever fat cells and water retention, it will hold on, due to the famine and drought condition (if you are not eating nurtients or drinking enough water).

Let's look at what you eat and modify it to make it balance with good fat, good protien and good carb. Balanced it, feed yourself with vibrant color fruits and vegetables, protien and good fat, you will not over eat anything. You body will stop when it has enough. Start feeding your body with real and good for you food.

I eat way too many carbs. I know my diet sucks. Just so fatigued and it's hard to keep going. Just keeping the house clean, meals prepared, homeschooling, being a good wife/mom is so hard right now. Then exercise?? I guess I was looking for a quick fix. I know, I know, there's no such thing as a miracle pill/shake/sprinkle. My 5 month old is up all night long and I can't nap, so fatigue is so bad I almost fall asleep while driving, so I stay home. Then I use sugar to stay awake. I have coconut oil and cook with it, but it tastes too nasty to eat plain. My brain is so tired, I wish I could just have a ready made all written out food plan for me to just follow without thinking, you know?

I have upped my water intake to 10 16oz. glasses a day, so that's going well. But the food part is severely lacking. I've been brushing almost every day for 2 months and taking alfalfa. Exercising is hard to do because I only have time for the 15 min. BWO and inch loss has stopped for a loooooong time. And I haven't lost a single pound since the birth of my baby almost 6 months ago. Usually, after having babies, I just go running and the weight comes off. But because of shin splints, etc., I did T-Tapp. Results are slower this route and I know that my body is healing, but it's just depressing wearing my huge fat pregnancy clothes still.

Sorry for the negative attitude. It's just been hard (on all fronts of life) lately. Thanks for being real about the food issue. I need a clear head to make a good grocery list, lol.

Heather,

At this point, do not worry about working out. Get your nutrition in order, you can drink a little more water, more rest (nap at least once a day) and stress under control first. No matter what miracle exercise program, if your body does not have the fuel, water, rest and peace, it will not lose any weight, inches, fat cell, water retention. I have no idea which problem you have, fix the fatigue and metal clarity first with good food first.

Too much is at risk for not taking care of yourself. You are nursing and driving around, you cannot doze off when you are nursing, driving, cooking, bathing the babies.

Eating well (protien, fats) are the priority even in the poor famine and drought primitive tribes. Pregnant and lactating women got the food first.

Good Mood Diet is a good one and it has time table and recommended food list, and you need to stick with the Group 3 when you are lactating.

I always get back to almost pregnant range when I was nursing a 5-6 months old, that is the most taxing time. I never diet and exercise until I weaned them completely off. Most of the fat and inches creeps back when the babies are not nursing full time anymore, so let's worry about exercising in 6 months. Workout after you feed yourself well and baby starts sleeping thru the night and you have energy to spare. From now till baby is 1 year old, enjoy your time, eat really really well and as close to zero junk carb as possible. If the junk carb is bad for you, do you think it is good to get into the breast milk for the baby?

Yes, don't put MSG, sugar substitute, aspartame and nitrites into your body. They will get into the lipid into the breastmilk.

Yup, Good Mood Diet might work well for you. Stick to it for a while and don't restrict calories.
It's good for a tired brain, you just have to follow the plan. :) I'm with you on that one. (also, don't worry about her recipes- we'll be glad to help you adapt your own recipes, if you are too tired).

as for sensea, I hear that it is a scam, problems with billing et al. Never did it, though.

Nursing always took more out of me than my pregnancies. I know it is SO hard to be patient and keep going when you are tired, but do try to take care of yourself. Why can't you nap? We homeschool and our children had "rest time" until they moved out. Everybody including Mom needs some alone time each day to rest. If you have resistant nappers just have them crawl in bed with you and they will fall asleep. If they have outgrown naps they can read in their bedrooms for an hour. You need to do that for yourself and for your children.

Do check out The Good Mood Diet. One change at a time and you will have more energy.

Blessings,
Angie

Thanks for everyone's help! I quit exercising and am reading the Good Mood book. Looks good!! I will start on it after Thanksgiving. Right now I'm just trying to up my water intake, adding more veggies, and weaning off goodies. I can't do it cold turkey when my body is used to a steady stream of sugar all day to stay awake!! Sensa looks too sketchy. I was just desperate. But now I'm realizing I just need to quit being lazy and change our food around. The kids and hubbie can benefit, too. I just have to make slower changes. I'm working on a list of foods to buy and what stores, etc. I have a friend who seems to know everything about organic/natural foods. ;)

On a side note, my one friend gave me these chewable vitamins called "Stress and Adrenal Support". I was wondering if they're okay to take while breastfeeding. I will call my doctor today, but they never seem to be much help. :( These are the ingredients:

*Vitamin C
*B1
*B2
*Niacin
*B3
*B5
*B6
*B12
*Biotin
*Folic acid
*Zinc

*Proprietary blend: PABA, Inositol, Choline, DHEA, Adrenal gland, Pregnenolone, Citrus bioflavonoids, Siberian ginseng extract, Rosemary herb powder, Naringin, Hesperidin, Rutin, Echinacea angustifolia root extract, Evening primrose oil powder

Is anyone an expert on herbs???

the ingredients of the supplement are either vitamins or similar (PABA, Inositol, Choline are in the B vitamin family) Naringin, Hesperidin, Rutin, and Bioflavonoids come from citrus fruits, ginseng, rosemary, and echinacea are herbs generally safe as long as you aren't allergic. I would just want to know if the adrenal gland comes from a cow free from hormones and antibiotics.

Hi- Not an expert by any means, but I do know something. Siberian Ginseng (now called Eleuthero) is one of the wonderful classes of adaptogens which help your body deal with stress. I have recently started my ADHD/Asperger's 13 yo ds and it is working wonders for him. However, this herb and also the Echinacea are such that they lose their effectiveness unless you take breaks from it. Also, I have read that the jury is out on whether Siberian Ginseng is good for nursing women...it can cause irritability for both you and the baby (I am still nursing our 14 month old, and I looked into taking it myself, but decided against it based on that).
DHEA is a steroid hormone and should not be used while nursing.
And as someone else mentioned, the adrenal gland is bovine usually. It is ground up adrenal gland tissue from the cows. Unless it is a very reputable company, I would be concerned about this.
Rosemary is safe when consumed in the small amounts in food, but it is not known whether it is safe for large amounts in nursing. I personally would avoid taking it daily in a supplement such as this. And since it is a proprietary blend (meaning their own special blend) they by law do not have to disclose how much is in it, so you wouldn't know.

Give yourself some grace, too! You are doing the most important job in the world.

I never used to drink enough water, especially when nursing, and now that I've committed to do that for the last few weeks, I've never felt better.

Also, with TTapp, I've noticed that for the first time ever my carb cravings for bread and pasta are GONE. This is a miracle for me because I am Italian American and those have always been a part of my life.

I find that even if I can't work out, concentrate on "ribs up", inhale big/exhale bigger (I always forget to breathe right!) and doing a hoe down when I feel yucky so helps my mood. Maybe you can try those things or a few Tapp Core moves throughout the day. They are only 2 minutes each.

I am also wondering if maybe you have candida (yeast)? That will also cause the carb cravings and just general icky feelings. I had suffered from that for years without knowing it. That is wonderful that you use coconut oil. I do too, but I can't stand to eat it plain. So I take Beeyoutiful's Yeast Assassin Lite (http://www.beeyoutiful.com/yeast-assassin-lite.html). It is caprylic acid (what's in coconut oil) in capsules. Be sure not to use the regular Yeast Assassin, that's not for nursing.
And maybe add in a good probiotic if you are not already.

Hope something here helps
