My dd is taking a social media class (just a freebie one) and she signed up for Pinterest. As soon as she was approved, she was "following" 10 people! She did not know them nor did she do whatever it is you do to "follow" (maybe they just assign you some so you don't feel left out?! LOL!)

She went through what she thought she was supposed to do to "unfollow" and now it's up to 66!

Apparently this is a problem with Pinterest, from what she's read, but she'd really like to QUIT FOLLOWING all these people she doesn't know or want to follow!

She begged me to ask my savvy Tapper friends if any of you knew what to do! (I've trained them well!) ;)

TIA for any advice!

I have also signed up with Pinterest, and although I love the site and ideas, it is getting really anoying for me also, to be following TONS of people I don't even know! LOL! I am not much help, but just wanted to let your DD know she is not alone, and that there is someone else who is having the same problem!

Hmmm....I haven't noticed that I'm following people I don't know but I get scads of emails saying people are following me. (and I'm thinking--sorry I'm so boring with just three things posted, but I don't have much extra time). Cool site though! I found some neat ideas for my house.

Does she have a FB account and did she sign in with it? I used my FB account and I was automatically following my FB friends who use pinterest. In addition I think if I pin something that has been pinned I get all those people who pinned prior to my pinning. Whew!

She did sign in with FB, but they don't have any friends yet on FB, either!

I don't think she had pinned anything yet, either, but I'll pass this along, thanks!

And at least she's in good company! :)

A df of my dd's told her that when you sign up you pick your interests, so it automatically has you follow all people who have that same interest!

She was able to go to each person and click the gray box that says "following" and it unfollows you! (How confusing!)

Just a FYI in case it helps anyone else! :)

Ah! I was thinking about that last night. I was wondering if that was true. Glad to know it's solved. ;0)

Yes, you can unfollow folks, but you have to do it manually, one by one. It's an interesting site. I'm still not used to people repinning my pins! At first, I just didn't want to share and I felt like a 3-year-old! LOL

LOL! Yeah, I don't need one more thing to keep up with, so I'll let her do it! HaHa!

I joked with dd saying, "Well, maybe they want you to feel friendly so they automatically assign you 10 friends to start off with!"

She's read some pretty funny things about people trying to figure out what's going, like this one:

Get out the tissues, because the tears will be rolling--this guy's a hoot!

Now, that's funny! I like Pinterest for collecting quotes and images that inspire poems or collages (I teach poetry to kids for my state's art council, and to adults). I'm not that interested in using it to be social. I followed Josh's suggestions for unfollowing (not a real word!) and discovered that I'd been following some random guy in Southern California! He was cute, but still....

LOL Jennifer! Yes, all these newfangled "words" "unfollowing" "friending" "unfriending"--I don't even use texting shortcuts because my language major background has fits!
