What are referrals? What are tags?

I was looking at the points page, how we can earn "points" by posting, creating/joining groups, creating an album, adding "friends," etc.

Apparently I have a "community" award (I had it before the switch to this new forum software, so no surprise there), but I still don't really know what it's for, what I did to deserve it! Can someone let me know? Feel free to do so privately if I was nominated by someone who wants to remain anonymous. I'm just curious!

I also noted that people have returned awards. How does that work? I never got any notification; I simply saw it next to my name--and when you "hover"the mouse over it, it says what it is. Should I be returning my award so it can be given to someone else? Why/how do people return awards? Does this happen because an admin accidentally gives an award to someone they didn't mean to (sort of a computer typo)?

Also, what are "referrals?" What are "tags?" I saw those two terms used, both as the basis for giving certain awards as well as for awarding "experience points."

I don't know about the rewards, Margie.

Referrals, I think, are for when you use the Referral button on the forum and put in a friend's email address. They then have the option to come to the forum and register, etc.

The tags are "key words" you can put on a post that you have started. I've never done it and so I don't know if there are certain guidelines that go with that. But if you are posting a question about a certain move, you can add a "tag" to the post and that helps when others are searching to find some information.

I wondering if there is somewhere we can go that will explain all this stuff? Because I don't have a clue. Or do we just fumble around on our own? So I'm wondering like you Margie.

Perhaps that's something that will be added when they're finished updating the site. I just noticed an "FAQ" link at the top of the page... perhaps that will shed some light on this.

I'm hoping at some point the admin will see this. ;)

Margie, thanks for noticing that! Lots of information there. I don't understand it all but it is helpful. So we'll have to keep checking for all the changes.

We're still updating several components to this Forum that are just taking time. At times you may see on the Forum where it talks about the Vbulletin CMS or Forums CMS. CMS, just stands for Content Management System. This is actually for Trainers only and will be explained more in detail after the Forum has finished updating new features.

Good questions! And what are we to do with our points? I understand Habit Formers points, but I'm in the dark about points gained on the forums.
