A computer tech I know sent me a link for Picasa in response to my question on what is a good photo editing program. I downloaded it, and now I'm trying to get some pictures together to put on here. I'm wondering, though, if Picasa is something I've connected to on the internet or if it is sitting within my computer so only I can see my pictures. I'm worried that my pictures might be publicly viewable, and I do not want that.

Both.
You can upload them into a web photo album to share with friends and family,
great for sharing a trip with lots of people, which I would think you would know if you did...
Or you can sort, arrange and edit photos on your own computer.

When I downloaded the program, it pulled out every one of the photos I had on my computer. So now are they all viewable publicly? Or is there a way to make them private if they aren't already?

No, I think it just organized your photo's for you, I doubt it uploaded them without you realizing it.
It would take a really long time. Though I've not used that program specifically,
I have used others and they have you select which ones to upload, create a log in and password....
Did it do any of those things? Is there some way we could test it and see, for you?

I love Picassa and unless you actually upload your pics, they stay on your computer. Just make sure you check or uncheck all the appropriate boxes regarding WHO can view the pics. If YOU miss the box, then they can be viewed.
