I'm posting this info here, so it doesn't get lost in the middle of the DYT thread. I learned about d-mannose from Suzanne Somers' interview of Dr. Jonathan Wright in one of her books (I think it's Breakthrough). Anyway, he is an AMAZING holistically-minded M.D. and one of the pioneers of bio-identical hormones.
d-mannose is the sugar that the E Coli are going after in your bladder. There are little tiny pockets of it lining the bladder wall. The E coli crawls along the wall of the bladder from pocket to pocket, so it doesn't get flushed out with the urine. That's why it can be such a pain to treat. BUT, if you take d-mannose, it floods the bladder in the urine and gives them WAY more to eat in the urine than on the walls of your bladder. They "let go" of the wall to eat all that sugar they're after, and then are easily flushed out when you urinate. You're not killing the bacteria, you're actually feeding it, so there's no rebound or resistance. Everybody's happy! LOL
This info fascinates me, even though I've never had a UTI in my life. I have recommended it to a friend who was getting them regularly and she said it worked great. It comes in a powder at my HFS, with directions on the package. I noticed it is also available through Dr. Wright's website: www.tahoma-clinic.com (http://www.tahoma-clinic.com) Look in the "dispensary". It should be an easy thing to keep on hand and take at the first possible sign. It's not a drug and there are no side effects.
