I'm positive this has been addressed, but can't find it. How do you keep the buns tucked while walking? I've been doing SATI and have watched the first part numerous times where she tells you what to do, but can't seem to get the hang of doing it correctly. I thought I had it but dh said I'm leaning way back. I do notice my back is way tired by the time I'm done. I'm not forcing my shoulders back as much anymore, which is helping, but I am leaning some. So what should I be doing differently. I am pretty positive I'm a short torso, if that helps any.

Think about lifting your ribs out of your hips, not leaning back. Get a mirror if you can, shoulders should be directly over the hips. Don't stress out too much...it took me a long time to get the hang of SATI.:o

Hi Ashley,
I think Kayla's suggestion was great. Focus on lifting your ribs up. Try to focus on keeping everything lined up. I like the visual of a little dog tucking its tail between its legs. Whenever I'm mentally checking my form, that little dog image pops into my head and really helps me stay tucked. Just start where you are and keep Tapping!

If you ever walk downhill, you can kind of get a feel for it! That helped me some--you don't really lean back, as Kayla said, but it helped me get a "feel" of what I was supposed to be doing! ;)

And Ashley, I agree whole heartedly with Kayla. Get a mirror and use it to check your form. It is not being egotistical to watch yourself closely while you do T-Tapp. You will be surprised how often your form slips a little and you can correct it before Terese catches you.http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/11/11_4_124v.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZSfox000)

Another question about SATI while walking. I seem to lose the KLT even before my 2nd step. Is this something that comes with practice?

It will come, Pat. One thing I try to keep in mind is to TIGHTEN. Keep Curling the Core TIGHT, Keep those thighs TIGHT, and Keep Stepping with each Step...like a little March Step. When my arms start going, I tend to want to shuffle. I was doing Broom one day and Teresa addressed that. She said to keep those knees stepping high. You need to keep Marching...Stepping...mindfully.

You can't really do a full butt tuck when walking like you can when you're doing a T-Tapp workout.
Jennifer's tips above on Keeping Your Core Curled will get your butt tuck where it's supposed to be when walking.
Yes, these techniques get easier with time and practice.

Ashley,
Think of keeping belly button to spine as that will also tuck butt while engaging the transverse abdominal muscles- the lower abs.

Tina, thanks for that thread
Jennifer, the tip about remembering it's a march helped and also keeping things tight
Casey I am glad to hear that the butt tuck in the workout is different when you start walking - that also helped.
So.... I read that other thread Tina suggested, went through the SATI instructional again - and discovered that I could walk around the house and keep it all together for a short time (YEA!) ... or at least, be closer to keeping it all together ;-) As soon as I went out into the air, I seemed to lose my concentation.
NOW I have something to work on, though and a target. I take a walk outside every day and am looking forward to bringing SATI into it.
Thanks -
Pat

Oh! Okay! I'm still getting the hang of all this. Thank you guys so much for being so patient with these newbie questions. I think that will help a lot. I really didn't realize I was leaning until dh remarked on it.
The tips on KLT really help too. This is tough to get the hang of!

Oh, I remember one day walking through my kitchen and heading down the stairs and for some reason I was really Curling my Core and I realized that my hips were twisting out and I was walking KLT naturally!!! I ran to the computer and hopped on the forum and shared my "news" with everyone!!! :D They let me know that I was 'on target'! I think it's great fun to get those AHA moments!
