View Full Version : I stopped temporarily and...Depression

I'm fairly new to T-Tapp and had been happily tapping for about a month with no "outside changes. I am hypothyroid, however, and one good thing was I had to decrease my thyroid meds which I attribute to T-Tapp because that was the only thing I did different.

I stopped tapping because after reading how important it was to have the correct form, I was so afraid my form was horrible. I also have a birth defect which resulted in my spine having fused/missing vertebrae which makes some moves difficult if not impossible for me to do correctly and I didn't want to do more harm than good. I definitely don't want to get any bigger!

Here's the thing though. When I stopped, after a couple of days I got extremely depressed. I felt horrible! I couldn't take that either. It was such a change from what I was feeling while I was exercising, so I started back. I have Instruction tape #1, BWO+ and SATI. I haven't done SATI only Instructional one and the hoe-downs afterwards. I know T-Tapp was having a positive reaction on my insides and my brain apparently. I feel much better now I've started back. Right now, I'm only doing the back stretch and hoe downs. I'm trying to get my form as good as I can on those 2 moves.

Unfortunately, right now I can't join an online class. I will say the way I felt after stopping has given me a HUGE incentive to keep doing some of the moves. I don't want to feel that depression coming back. As soon as I can, I'm thinking of getting the MORE workout to see if maybe I can get my form better from that. I haven't exercised "regularly" before starting T-Tapp, other than a 2 mile walking tape periodically.

Sorry so long....any advice would be very much appreciated! Everyone on these forums are so helpful and positive. I check them regularly even if I don't post. Thanks!

So glad you started up again!

Form is something that is progressive--you do your best, you get an "a-ha" and your best changes! Repeat!

MORE is excellent with a slower and very good Instructional, but you can do it with BWO+ by revisiting the Instructional 1 and use the pause button (and rewind if necessary!) and even do less reps slower.

If you can get MORE, I would! It is such a life-saver for me!

I know if I get crazy-busy and can't T-Tapp regularly, it affects my moods, too!

HUGS and welcome back!

I only have a few minutes to make a quick post.
Glad to hear that T-Tapp is helping you.
Relax and keep doing your best.
Do you live near a trainer?

Thanks so much for the positive reinforcement BlessedMama and lotsakids! It helps to hear it. I will get MORE as soon as I can, meanwhile I'll just keep doing one or two at a time until I feel like it's the best I can get it!

Oops, I forgot. I live in a state where there are no trainers. I'd have to do the online class or one on one online and unfortunately right now I can't. :(

Doesn't Teresa Tapp have a fused spine or something like that? I know she has some sort of spinal injury and she INVENTED it. And look how bendy she is!

I hear you on T-Tapp helping depression!!! For that reason alone, I want to keep T-Tapping.

I agree with Trisch. Form is progressive. It IS easy to start feeling discouragement because form is so important. I have felt the same way....if I'm doing it "wrong", then I'm doing myself more harm. I realized that was a lie that I should NOT believe!!

Do it to the best of your ability. As you work, each time, on each move doing it the best you can, your form will improve because your body will be improving. Using a mirror will be helpful. Do you have the book? Reading the Must Read Threads will help too. As you read on each move, practice it checking yourself in the mirror.

Sometimes I think it's more important to just Do It. The understanding comes from the doing.

We are here for any help you may need!

KD1KC1...yes to ALL of the above. In addition I know that quite a few of the trainers offer web cam sessions if that's an option for you. Meeting with a trainer, if possible, is so helpful and encouraging.

You CAN do this. Stay consistent, go slow and learn one move at a time. Welcome home!

Thanks, all! There is someone, Jeanne, who is a trainer and was helping me tremendously via email. She answered a lot of questions and gave me some good information. Everyone I've dealt with that has been associated with T-Tapp has been wonderful and so helpful, including the forums. I don't post a lot, but I read everything I can get to on these forums. I truly appreciate the responses, advice and caring that is exhibited here. It gives me hope that I can get it right. At least "right" enough to work for me even with my physical issues. Thanks all!

I am in Mississippi too(Hattiesburg)! There are a couple more ladies too, I think. One for sure, around the Jackson area. Her name is Susan and posts occasionally.

Where in MS are you?

Yay! It's great that there are others here in MS. I was thinking people here hadn't heard of T-Tapp! Now I don't feel totally alone here in this journey. I live in the Madison area right now. I'm so glad you posted. Has anyone done a one on one over the computer or are you just using the book and/or the tapes?

My dad and step-mom live in Madison too(moved there 2 years ago, after living with me because of Katrina:/).

I have never done an online/video training, just DVD's, book...I also went to a clinic in Atlanta with Teresa and one in Birmingham with Kirsten. Both were wonderful and so helpful
