View Full Version : No Surgery....just the Right Bra

I just can't believe it!
I did the 'bra size calculator' that Charlotte gave us....it said I was a 32 DD (or DDD)and of course I rolled on the floor laughing ROFLOL!!!!
I thought it was the biggest JOKE that I had ever had!!
I had been wearing a 34B or (if pregnant) 36C....for 30+ years!!!!
BUT, I just spent 3 hours bra 'hunting' and trying on every 34Ds (the biggest they have where I'm from!)
AND...discovered that I AM a 32DD!!! (SHOCKED!!!:clappinghands:)
I have been be-moaning my small breast size since I was 14....
1) AND hating how I look in T-Shirts....
2)AND hating Bras (burn baby burn!!)
3) AND wishing for a silicon implant...(even though the surgery movie gives me the willies!)
BLAMING my girls....for being SMALL (unsatisfied:mad:).....
WHEN in fact...they have been PUTTING UP with me SQUISHING them into a B-cup UNDERWIRES for 30+ years....no wonder I was always SQUIRMING!!??
(Poor girls....will you ever forgive me??:thinkingabout:)
So, Long Story Short....TONIGHT I went shopping for 3 hours...
1)I purchased a 34D...even though I had to put it on the TIGHTEST setting (ya know the elastic stretches.....so GET the SMALLER BAND size so it's wear life is longer -- and DON't PUT it in the DRYER!!!)
2)And gave my daughter all my 34B bras
3)And have to special order a 32DD online
I found this website....and some bras on *sale* for about $24.95
http://www.herroom.com/
4) Needless to say....I am thinking that I am QUITE LARGE now, and I am celebrating tonight *with my girls*....
5) finally I *look good* in my t-shirts!...
DUH!!!
Just goes to show you what *silly things* or *lies* we get in our heads about ourselves, others, etc.....and it just goes on and on.....
UNTIL the LIGHT goes ON!!!:behave:
Thanks Charlotte....this was really a *God thing* (believe it or not....so sad to be so hard on myself....unsatisfied with my looks for most of my life, KWIM??)

ALSO: since I have breastfed 6 babies...I have lost some of the padding on my breastbone area....so the 'triangle' shaped bras 'cut-into' my skin...and don't look right...so only the Push-up kind work for me. (maybe if I work on my 'Pecs' ?)

AND....when I layed back to read in bed last night....I didn't have all the 'Cup Gaping' like in my 34B cup! (it was still 'all filled in'....just amazing what the right bra will do for you!)

Oh, that is SO COOL, Angel!! Did you read on the site about migrating tissue? She said that when women start wearing the right size bra, after a couple of months many of them have to get a smaller band size and bigger cup size because the tissue that formerly got squished migrates back to the b*reast where it belongs. So watch out, girl--you might be buying more new bras!

Thanks for sharing--I hope you find lots of pretty and well-fitting bras for your happy girls!

Wow, the stuff I learn on this forum!

OK, I'm going to try this too. I've never been comfortable in a bra so let's see how this works!

My new size according to the calculator is 30D! Hah! So beyond crazy, I've been wearing a 32B forever. Even when nursing my babies I don't think I even tried on a bra with a band size larger than a C.

I found a Chantelle brand bra in the new size (for very little $$) on ebay. Let the inner armpit fat migration begin!

It was sooo weird....like I thought I was small-breasted....because i was gapping in a 34B!!
And then last night....it like I was TWICE as big as I ever imagined! Even when I was lounging on the bed...laying back....there was NO GAPPING...<GASP!>
SOOO Weird....and Wonderful!!
I seriously feel like I did get a surgery or something:clappinghands::clappinghands:
(I should have believed my husband, after all....he said I 'wasn't small'!! LOL)
I ordered online a Felina Bare Essentials Demi Contour Bra

It is true!!! It is TRUE!!
So, last night for 3 hrs I tried on every 34D (not 34B) in 2 stores...JC Penny, and Younkers (we have small towns...and I even drove 1 1/2hrs R/T)
1) I found the BEST ONE 34D....(remember...some won't look good)
2)Then, I grabbed the back...and stretched it even further back -- grasping 2 more inches)
3) Then...realized that it REALLY could be a 32DD!! (especially since the 34D was on the tightest snaps..the elastic will stretch out)

SO YOU get a 32C (good luck, these stores only have a 32A...seriously..UGH!)
Hold it tightly in the back (like 2 more inches in...) and then see where the underwire fits....very snugly up under the breast.....look at centering, and if it's squishing at all.....then you can see that a 32C....will convert to a 30D (the same size as a 32C...except that the BAND is smaller)

I don't know if it will fit. I'll let you know! Before buying on ebay I checked out the 'D' cup bra prices locally - whoa, were they pricey. I just couldn't talk myself into spending quite that much $$ on an experiment. I decided to just take a chance with the ebay ' test' bra.

Crazy that it fit, huh? I did try on several other well known bra brands --Wacoal, Calvin Klein, Panache (sp?) last week while I was in the mall shopping for jeans - just happened to wander up to the lingerie dept--and the other brands did not fit. I really didn't dream that the ebay Chantelle would fit - so I couldn't believe it.

Hi All,

I had always thought that my breasts were on the small size too. I would fluctuate between a 34b and a 36 b, several of the online sizers said that I was a 36 c. I had a coupon for victoria secrets and went in there and they measured and also said that I was a 36 c. So I am not as small as I kept thinking, LOL. So now I have to find me some 36 c bras. I have one right now that I got yesterday but I want to get some that do not have the underwire in them but still have good support.

But at least I now know what my real bra size is. I know that it might change once I loose some weight but for now I am glad to know the right size for me.

I've heard that Dillard's, Nordstrom's and Penney's usually have experienced fitters and a wide range of sizes. I've also heard that Victoria's Secret's clerks do NOT measure accurately and they do not carry unusual sizes. So if you want to try on instead of ordering online, it will probably mean a shopping trip to a larger city (which is why I haven't tried on yet)!

BlessedMama
11-03-2009, 12:10 PM
Charlotte, I just went to Penney's online, and they actually have a few in 34DDD which is what I'm supposed to be according to the link you gave! And it's only $14! It might be junk, but it just might be worth ordering a few to try......the nearest Penney's to me is an hour and a half away! Our "local" Penney's doesn't have a great selection, but I could try there first---you just never know!

Thanks for mentioning those stores!

Trisch, I'm on the bra hunt too and saw your DDD. did the site give you the DDD? I'm asking because in my researching bras I've found that a couple of places use DDD and F interchangably (sp?). the size calculator on the bra site actually came up with a G for me which I'm having a hard time believing so I said I'll look at one cup size down and that's when I found confusing stuff about the whole DDD and F thing. hope you can make sense of all my bra rambling!

I think it depends on the manufacturer. We have a mastectomy supply store in our tiny town and she carries hard to fit bra sizes, too. I took DD there and she was finally able to try on some 32 and 34 DD and DDD bras. Each brand was a little different, but she FINALLY found bras that fit. One company's DDD was another's E, but as long as it fits in the end, who cares what they call it! We had to order the color and style she ended up choosing, but they were correct when they got here. The bra calculator on the Bali site said she should wear a 38A! Crazy!

Look for a speciality bra shop, even if it's main deal is mastectomy bras. They may do other stuff, too, even if you have to ask them to. Ours started carrying the odd sizes because her DIL asked her for help getting bras in her correct size.

I am currently wearing a 40C and I do have some of that "spillage" out of the cups, but seriously, I really don't think they are going to fit.

Any advice? Just try one? I think a G is also a DDDD.

In my case I was wearing a 34B, (have since I was 13) and the cups were actually big on me. So, you imagine that I am NOT AT ALL large busted but the calculator gave me a size 32D and it fits fabulously! I am still not large busted so I can see how someone medium to large would be in a G+ cup. One thing I had not realized before was that the underwires on my 34B's were stopping somewhere mid breast (in the armpit side) but in my D's the wires come all the way to the top of the breast so I can tuck all the breast tissue inside. (does that make sense?)

I tried it and got 34J!!! I desperately need a well-fitting nursing bra so I went to www.NursingBra-Shop.co.uk (http://www.nursingbra-shop.co.uk/) and got a bra--free shipping, and if it doesn't work, then I can send it back no questions asked (but I have to pay shipping). So we'll see.. they don't really make that size in the US so I was looking at UK sites.

Sooo.. it's shipped so I'll let ya know how it works. Oh to have a well-fitting bra.. I went to get fitted at the end of my last pregnancy and ended up with a 38C which is what I'm wearing now and it's tottalllllyy not the right size. at. all. I normally wear a 34 or 36D.. (hard to find 34s).

Can't these crazy stores put the bras in an orderly fashion instead of every which size and style together?!

And my poor dd who is an A/B cup couldn't find what she was looking for, either. Not even in the teen department--they were mostly "push up" style--I mean, come on! When you're an A cup, there's nothing to push up and at that age they shouldn't be anyway! Grrrrr!

Okay, rant done! I'm off to see what I can order!

Good Greta! can't wait to hear how it works out.

I went to Dillards yesterday looking for a 32G, of course no such thing in sight, they did have g's just not in 32. I did try on a few 32DDD and they band is great, but spilling out of the cups. The only thing is all these larger cup sizes have so much coverage! I mean the band is so wide, it goes practically to my armpit and the middle part in between the cups must be 4 or 5 inches tall! I feel like they are choking me!!!
I'm not necessarily looking for something super sexy but I don't want a granny bra either and I can't spend $60 (and up) on a bra!!! Arrrrggggghhhhh!!!!!

Trisch,

That is what I did. I bought them. Tried one on and realized I needed a slightly smaller cup or I need that rebellious tissue to migrate back:behave:. So until it shifts back into the front from the sides and back (funny like backfat could really be breast tissue, at least I like telling myself that versus I have a fat back :p) I will have to find 34D.

I figured if they did not fit, and they have the original tags on them, that I could relist them and that is what I did. I did not think about someone here might be interested.:behave:

You all know that it really, really, really depends on the manufacturer. Years ago when I was HUGE, I had to go to a specialty bra shop for bras (they are in any largish city). Anyway, one brand in a "full cut" J was not the same as B company (picture two bowling balls). And the underwires fit much differently that those with NO wires. Since the larger cup usually indicates more breast tissue (not more bra fat) then you will need more support for those larger puppies. Ergo the wider bands and usually wider straps.

I have DEEP indentations in my shoulders from having so much breast tissue for so many years before I got the proper fitting bras. Even then there was so much weight that it still dug in. After I had over 2-1/2 pounds removed in each breast in 2006 (picture a five pound bag of flour ladies), I was finally down to a "professionally fitted" 38C. Now the little sites we go to said I should be wearing a 38F. It does not take into account that I am 61 had have a LOT of back fat, NOT displaced bra tissue. (Yeah, I have bra fat, but most of it is in my back.) My hubby went with me to some stores around here and we had a good laugh. By the time I tried on four different brands of D cups we were about rolling on the floor!

If you are going solely on the recommendations in the links, do take into consideration if you have a "firmish" body or still have a quite squishy one, like me. Yes, it is getting better, but not all of us can go by those recommendations. Just wanted to give you all a heads up and let you know why you are not all conforming to the "true bra size".

Great post Nita! I had a reduction too and I still can't find a bra to fit right, because of the way they are shaped now. They are great now, but bras just aren't made right for me. I also have a rib right where an underwire sits so that is mucho uncomfortable and I can only wear a soft cup - I read about that being a problem for some people on one of those sites and it explained so much for me.
Anyway, I took my new measurements from one of the sites and it seemed huge, so I went in between what I was wearing and what it recommended and voila! I found an acceptable bra. Not perfect, but as close as I can get with my special shape. I was so surprised becuase I *thought* I had been wearing the correct band size, according to most of the bra sizing info out there. One size down and a cup size up made such a difference in the fit. It took care of the little pillows that always formed under my arms. :clappinghands:

Nita, you cracked me up. That description of everything was too much. I could picture you and your DH having so much fun, and who would think trying on bras.

But seriously, I mean no one helps you initially with bras. I think bras are probably design by men who dream of the perfect shape, size without any attention to how we are really made.:behave:

In any case, this has been a great thread:laughing:

Did I say it enough times? I have been in search of the correct bra size for many years, thanks to these postings I have finally found it. I went from a 38 G if I could find it and 38 DDD to a perfect fitting 36 J. (I know, they're huge, but I'm afraid of the knife). I have never had a bra feel as comfortable as the one I ordered after using the sites posted in this thread. I am so excited! Once again, THANKS!!!

My 34J bra from the UK arrived yesterday. and.. it FITS! It's not an underwire, but it has the seams for it around the cups and if it WAS an underwire I think by golly it'd actually FIT like it's supposed to and not dig in in armpit-area-land! It's a nursing bra and the clasps are 2-3 inches higher than my other bras, but by golly it fits it FITS! :) LOL DH is kinda laughing at me and my J. He's like.. WOW that's a HUGE bra! lolol

OH, Greta, I can relate!

I bought Rhonda's 34DDs and they came today. I looked at them and laughed, thinking, "There is NO way I have enough to fill those up!" LOL!

Well, I tried on one, and pushed stuff into the cups like the one website said, and what do you know?!!!!!! They very nearly fit perfectly! One side is a bit smaller than the other, which is normal, but by the time I got the straps adjusted, and put my clothes on over it, it was amazing!

And you know what else---when I lifted the ribs, shoulders back, curl the core....it fit even better! What an inspiration to sit and stand correctly! ;)

I still feel the band might be a bit tight, but not ever having a bra fit right since I was a 32B, it's hard to know what "right" is anymore!

I'm thrilled and so glad you posted about them here, Rhonda! :D Thank you!

I think this is the first time I've had a bra that supports me without using the straps! All the bra fitting guides say that, but I sure never found one that actually did it!

Until now! :clappinghands:
