Anyone Use St Lucia Drops or MSM drops for Eyes?

Hi there,

Do any of you have experience using St. Lucia drops or MSM drops in the eyes? I'm interested in it for my mother for cataracts, and for myself for floaters.

I've found recipes on the internet, using 15% MSM powder and 85% contact lens saline solution (the "recipe" gives the MSM in grams).

What I'm not finding is more than one or two success stories (and of course, who knows if they're real)?

Have any of you used these drops in your eyes, and what kind of results did you (or didn't you) get?

I haven't used them in my eyes lately, but Ultra Aesthetics makes MSM "beauty drops" (the FDA won't let them call them "eyedrops").

Thanks, Helena. So I guess you used them, they didn't hurt, but there's no rousing success story? (Or maybe you didn't have any real problem in your eyes to begin with.)

I looked in Whole Foods and didn't see any. On one hand I like the convenience and small investment with trying a bottle rather than springing for the powder to make my own. And since I'd like my mother to give it a try, she could take the bottle to her eye doctor for approval (her concern).

And I still kind of like the idea of making my own. We'll see what I do!

Hi Terez - I just put some drops in to try, and it doesn't sting. (Like you say, I didn't have any eye problems, I'm just into MSM.) My local HFS stocks Ultra Botanicals and Ultra Aesthetics (same parent company); it's rather hard to come by otherwise. I'm just fortunate to have Healing Edge so close by because they're much less $$$ the HFS.

You could make your own; just keep in mind more than 16% of MSM and it falls out of suspension. I got this info when I called the Ultra Botanicals company years ago to thank them for their products and the owner and I chatted for a few minutes. He said that 16% was the maximum you could put in like this, and they use the maximum.

Whichever drops your mom uses, hope they help.:)

I'm loving the image of you calling companies and talking to the owners! You go!

From my reading, I had gathered that 15% was the max to use. (I guess that's what my sources said because it's a rounder number than 16.)

Also from the reading, I understand that the topical creams and gels are more effective with some powder added (to reach up to 15% MSM). I'm convinced now to have a cream or gel on hand, and I'd also like to offer that to my mother for her arthritis, as well as the internal MSM.

I've decided to get both the powder and the drops. I called Ultra Botanicals and they're now selling under the brand "Answers from Nature" and the person I spoke to said the bottle has a notation on it that it's not to be used in the eyes. So that will not work for my mother, I'm certain she will not dare to put anything in her eye that is marked like that.

However, I'm not concerned. And if it works to reduce or eliminate my floaters, I'm going to be one happy camper.

The more I read about MSM, the more excited I am about using the stuff.

Hi Terez,

The "not to be used on eyes" jazz is to prevent the FDA from giving them a hard time! But I understand about your mom. Some people are just not rebels.[}:)][:p]

That's interesting about the new name - I'm looking at it right now. And if you call the number under "contact us," that's the same number I called and talked to the owner!

They make an MSM powder that is sweetened with stevia and vanilla. It's called vanilla orange MSM powder under the old Ultra Botanicals label. The stevia and vanilla help cut the bitterness of the MSM. I used this years ago when I had acute carpal tunnel; between taking this internally and the topical MSM lotion from the same company (kiwi strawberry!) it relieved the pain until I figured out about taking enough Omega-3 and B6 to restore the nerve sheaths. This MSM powder is also good to mix into green drinks to make them taste less funky!

This company also makes a Strivectin analog with much nicer ingredients. In fact, I love ALL their ingredients! Great company!:D

Terez, another good thing for arthritis is capsaicin cream. If your mom can't handle the heat of it, Traumeel gel is great. This is homeopathic, odorless, sting-free, and not sticky. Healing Edge carries this, but so does iherb and probably most health food stores. The owner of Healing Edge recently gave me some samples - e-mail me with your address and I'll mail you one!

I wasn't going to take the powder form, I was going to and to use it to boost the MSM percentage in a topical cream or gel -- and potentially also put it in a contact lens solution to make my own eye drops. Naturally I wouldn't want a powder with stevia and flavoring.

The powder on the Answers from Nature site states only MSM as its ingredient. I'll double check with them before ordering to make sure I'm selecting the right product. I came across several other sites that sell pure MSM powder, so I know I can find it easily enough.

I had to google Strivectin to know what that was. Hm...you've got me thinking here...

Oh, hah! I was thinking you were doing a double-pronged approach of taking the MSM powder internally in water then also using a lotion or cream! Jarrow also makes MSM powder in smaller containers for a good price, and it comes with a little scoop so you have some idea of the dosage you're adding. (This Jarrow MSM is nice to put into bathwater, too, BTW - especially since I don't think I'll be adding vanilla-orange stevia MSM to my bath any time soon[}:)][:p]!)

You're right, I am going to do the double-pronged approach but I thought I'd take capsules for the internal dose.

Adding a drink with MSM doesn't appeal to me. I try to drink a lot of water and I like my daily cup of coffee, and I'm having calcium tea -- well, it's just a lot to chug down. I don't care for smoothies or green drinks, so adding it there doesn't solve it for me. (I know it can be added to coffee but I really like how my coffee tastes. Guess I'll try it once, just in case I like it, but I expect I'll prefer not to mess with my coffee.)

I keep reading about baths so a year ago I took one and my recollection is that I got cold real fast. Taking a bath was time consuming and a lot of fuss for a not very comfortable experience. At least, that's what it was like for me. (Long way of saying, I won't be bathing in MSM!)
