Go For The Green(s)
March 4, 2008
Many People Who Stumble Upon T-Tapp Think They've Found a Pot of Gold!
One of the big surprises for those new to T-Tapp is how much they can eat -- and burn! (We'll talk about the effects of T-Tapp on healthy digestion in another newsletter.) It's one of the big payoffs of our workout... you need to eat. In truth, most women don't get enough protein in their diet which causes them to age more rapidly -- especially if they're doing hard workouts that require protein to fuel their efforts -- the body starts pulling it from its own muscle sources if there's not enough dietary protein coming in. So, I encourage you to eat well!
Now, as we get ready to celebrate St. Patty's Day and stop to make sure we've put our green on so we don't get pinched (or maybe you want to purposely forget), I thought it would be a good time to talk about getting your greens and the simple "diet plan" I call GM/MM.
Here are two recipes that caught my eye when I was drooling over all the yummy things to make on the Epicurious website: for those of you with the time to dedicate, here's a recipe for Greens Filled Ravioli with Walnuts (http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/104554) and another for Beets and Beet Greens with a touch of Guinness Stout (http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/10357) for flavor. I like the unpasteurized walnuts I get from Living Nutz (http://www.livingnutz.com/), they're unbeatable for flavor and still have all their enzymes for easy digestion. For those of you who have read about my God Made/Man Made (GM/MM) lifestyle plan for eating, the beets qualify as God Made and the Ravioli are in the Man Made category, but both are healthy choices for each category! Some people also question my philosophy of cooking with real butter, but your body knows what to do with butter and it is great when it's combined with the right companion foods for proper digestion. You can learn more about the God Made/Man Made program on the forum boards on the T-Tapp website: click here! (http://forum.t-tapp.com/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=27) My favorite of all the "fats" for cooking is coconut oil! In fact, on a cold day I like to have sweet potato with coconut oil melted into it, brown sugar and cinnamon -- it's like sweet potato pie! I know that's not particularly "Irish" but it's delicious and a God Made option for eating!
By the way, did you know that what most of us think of as cinnamon isn't really! It's a related tree called cassia that the bark comes from that most of us buy. All the great effects of cinnamon on blood sugar regulation and digestion haven't been studied on cassia. So you may want to look around for true cinnamon. I found one at tasty recipe (http://www.penzeys.com/cgi-bin/penzeys/p-penzeysceyloncinnamon.html%5DPenzy%27s%5B/url%5D.It%27s%20more%20of%20a%20subtle%20flavor,%2 0but%20real%20cinnamon%20has%20been%20highly%20pri zed%20for%20centuries%20and%20worth%20a%20lot%20of %20gold%21%3Cbr%20/%3E%0A%3Cbr%20/%3E%0AOne%20of%20my%20other%20favorite%20foods%20i s%20salmon%20which%20is%20high%20in%20omega%203%20 Fatty%20Acids,%20here%E2%80%99s%20another%20%5Burl =%22http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/238823)! Omega 3s are sadly lacking in our typical American meals, we get a lot of 6s but our 3s are way off! Omega 3s improve our skin, help with depression, reduce inflammation (everything from arthritis to irritable bowel syndrome to puffy skin), and generally keep us in prime health. Dr. Nicolas Perricone (who named T-Tapp THE anti-aging workout) is also a huge advocate of eating wild caught salmon. So consider adding this top-notch source of protein and essential fatty acids to your God Made diet repertoire. If you just don’t like fish, you may want to consider a fish oil supplement. And, if you’re a vegetarian or vegan, you can get those vital EFAs from lifeDHA® – it comes from algae and is safe enough for pregnant women and infant formula.
