Healthy Heart Month
February 2008
From My Heart to Yours!
It's healthy heart month and with the celebration of Valentine's Day, it's good time to remember to give your heart some TLC!
For those of you new to T-Tapp, you should know that cardiologists LOVE this workout! T-Tapp gives you great cardio-conditioning without putting you at risk for injuries. Many of you have also tried T-Tapp MORE (http://www.t-tapp.com/store/shopexd.asp?id=1722) and you might be surprised to notice that you're improving your endurance and your heart health with your steady progress. It's a reason for all of us to celebrate!
Getting Beyond "Being Perfect"... Trust Me, It's HIGHLY Overrated!
One of the reasons I created T-Tapp and T-Tapp MORE is that I knew that people who weren't supermodels or ready to spend hours every week in the gym needed a fitness program that met their needs: a fast-paced lifestyle (kids, school, career, homemaking - my T-Tappers really do "bring home the bacon and fry it up in a pan" as the old commercial says!), baby-weight gain, hormonal changes, and just plain old weight gain. I truly love hearing from all of you about the great changes in your lives when T-Tapp gave you the motivation to move! The benefits to YOUR heart are part of the reason I put MY heart into building this program.
Sadly, heart disease is one of the top killers for women in the United States. In fact, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (commonly called the CDC in the news), 52.8% of the heart disease deaths in the US are women. On the flip side, only about a third of women in surveys recognize that heart disease is such a great health risk. You can read more about it on this Web page (http://womenshealth.about.com/cs/heartdisease/a/heartdisease.htm) on About.com (http://www.about.com). A nationwide campaign was started in 2002 called The Red Dress Campaign. You can download one of their handy wallet cards in .pdf format here (http://womenshealth.about.com/cs/heartdisease/a/heartdisease.htm) and I vote we all wear our Red T-Tapp BLING in February in honor of this important campaign!
After having been an educator for so many years, the rise in childhood obesity is very distressing to me. Did you know that Disneyland recently had to shut down the Small World Ride? They have to retool the ride because the increased weight of those on the ride is sinking the little boats! That's just tragic. When you add in the wrinkle that in many schools PE and even recess are being cut out of the daily schedule, it's no wonder kids are having difficulty learning and are gaining weight. This was the motivating force behind the creation of TappCore-Fundamental Fitness for Developmental Bodies (http://www.t-tapp.com/store/shopexd.asp?id=2525). Our children (and especially for me with my T-Tapp kids) are the key to our hearts - we need to take care of them and teach them to care for their bodies. TappCore is being used in classrooms in Florida and Tennessee right now and homeschoolers have gone wild buying it! I'm so happy that we can provide a really easy, fun-to-use program that fits right in to the learning day. And of course, the fact that Buddy is becoming America's workout buddy makes my heart just sing!
So in closing, I thought I would remind you all that a chunk of dark chocolate, a nice glass of red wine, and a set of hoe-downs are all good for your soul and dynamite for your heart. And if for any reason you're feeling sad, well hoe-downs will blast the blues away too!
For the month of hearts and flowers, I send you all my best!
Teresa Tapp
