Hi Tappers,
Was doing a search for exercise equipment and found this site with "weighted" shoes. Only have sizes 6-10 in whole sizes and white, but look a lot like Metatrek with 3 lb weights in each shoe. In case you are having a hard time getting Metatrek in your size, maybe this site can help:

It doesn't look to me like these have a negative heel (at least they don't advertise it as such and they probably WOULD if it did) like the Metatreks do, so keep that in mind if you are considering these.

Another brand to check out is Nikken -- the CardioStrides. It's also a weighted shoe, and I think that maybe the CardioStrides Ultra allow you to remove the weights and/or change the weights (I believe they came with two different weights).

Oh my goodness! These are the ORIGINAL CardioStrides by Nikken! I know because this is what they gave me to try out before they hired me as a consultant to introduce weighted walking shoes. Once I told them how wonderful they were in creating more comprehensive muscle activation as well as improve posture (both of which provide immediate relief in lower back area for those of us who suffer from lower back issues), they decided to have custom logos put on (aka CardioStride and Nikken name)

I had no idea that these were available!

Yes, the new CardioStrides look more like a sneaker and do allow you to remove the weighted insole, if you wish, BUT these originals are good. Although they look a little bit more like "moon boots" and they weigh a little bit more than the new CardioStrides, I like them. I liked MetaTreks because it's sole was a bit more flexible and it looked more like a regular shoe but I think their company is in the process of being purchased and I'm worried that they may not continue offering weighted shoes.

So thanks for sharing this link ... I'm happy to discover the first, original ergonomic, orthopedic weighted shoe is back!

Best wishes,

Teresa Tapp

What about the negative heel? From what I can tell, neither the original or the new CardioStrides have a negative heel. I thought that was one of the things that made the MetaTreks so good. Am I wrong?

Yes, these shoes do have negative heel incorporated within the shoe. That's why when you first put them on you can full your lower lumbar muscle attachments activate.

Best wishes,

Teresa Tapp

ps - the only "negative" about this particular shoe is that the flat shoe laces make it difficult to lace and unlace....but there are special "hooks" that you can get that attach to each lacing hole to make it MUCH easier! Also I recommend replacing the flat laces with "round" thinner laces too.

Great---thanks Teresa. I'll look into these. How are they in regard to sizing? Should I order the size I usually wear?

Cool!

I've ordered from that website, too, and they have always been easy to deal with in the past.

The link for the weighted shoes doesn't work. When I get to the GAIAM site and see the shoes and click on them I get a page that says...

We're sorry, but the page you are looking for cannot be accessed. It may have been removed, had its name changed, or may be temporarily unavailable.

I have heard this is a wonderful company to do business with though.

I have a pair of Metatreks and I love them, when do you know if they are worn out or not? Sounds like I will have to replace them with these shoes, which is fine, but I can 't even access the page to see them.

Where would one find the hooks that Teresa mentioned?

Thanks!
TJ

You might try calling GAIAM's customer service. The picture is still up when I click on footwear, but as soon as I click on the picture it takes me to that same page. They are remodeling the site, so it may just be a bug.

Speaking of shoes with negative soles...is this what Earth shoes are? Would it be good to wear them all the time?

Triciajenn,
Having worn both Earth and Metatreks, (not CardioStrides though).... Earth shoes ARE negative heeled shoes, where *I* don't feel it in Metatreks. Big difference. Though the benefits of working out in a weighted shoe are there, they feel nothing like an Earth shoe, IMO. Earth shoes are definitely good for everyday/all day use. I do say be careful, in the beginning, not to overstretch the hamstrings if you opt to Tapp in them. Great shoes!

Bad news guys, I called Gaim and they no longer carry the weighted shoe. I still love my new Cardio Strides, they look like regular sneakers and have a removeable weighted innersole so they can be worn as regular sneakers without weight as well!
