Is the avocado still okay when it brown around the pit? What should it look like. I have not eaten a lot of avocados that I have prepared myself...any advice would be great. I'm hoping Moyne will jump into answer this as I know she eats a lot of them:)

Thanks!

I usually just cut off the dark part and eat it anyway...and sometimes if it's not too bad I just leave it and mix in some guacamole. Hope that helps

I think so! I have a hard time getting good ones, so I have to cut out bad spots often. They're so expensive that I hate to just throw them away because of bad spots.

Sometimes I only eat 1/2 and put the other 1/2 in the frig. and that happens. I now use the green bags that they sell on QVC to keep them from turning brown between meals. I tried lemon juice, and that works also. DEb

Oh, yeah, if you freeze it IMMEDIATELY in a ziploc, it stays perfectly green and fresh. That's what I do for my smoothies. But, don't let it sit out to thaw, 'cause it QUICKLY turns brown while thawing. (I just dump it in the blender frozen.)

I saw a great idea in a Shwan's catalog the other day. They cut an avocado in half, took out the seed, put a spoonful of salsa in, then froze it. When you want guac, you pull one out, and, once it's thawed, squish it around.

Moyne, does that mean you freeze after you remove the skin?

I usually just cut out the brown spots too. I usually only eat half of one at a time (I love avocado/cucumber wraps). I read that you leave the pit in, put lemon juice on the exposed part and wrap in plastic. The next day I just remove the pit and cut a very then layer off the top. Works great.

Yep, I remove the skin, cut it up into chunks, then put them into ziploc bags and toss in the freezer.

I'm wondering, though, are the brown spots good to eat, just ugly? I sometimes wonder how much to cut out. I hate wasting it, but don't want to eat it if it's bad or not beneficial. Anyone know?
