I read a very interesting magazine article in Natural Health and how those of use with chronic health issues are depleted in ribose. We need it to stimulate our body's production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), a compound that releases energy when broken down and helps power our hearts, muscles, brain and every other tissue in the body. People taking it (it's available as a supplement) have better sleep, less pain, better concentration, etc.
Here's a research link:

The issue of Natural Health is the November 2007 issue.
I hope this helps.

Pamela - I read the same article and went out and bought some. I have been taking it for about a week. It does give me energy and I have been sleeping better. Don't take it too close to bedtime tho because it will keep you awake. I can't take it with caffeine either, I get too jittery. I haven't noticed any less pain.

Thank you! I was hoping someone had tried this or was familiar with it. Some of the most personally useful things I have found have been from this forum.
I see that SwansonVitamins.com sells it and am wondering how good their quality is.
Thanks, Pepey Lepew! (My favorite warner bros. cartoon character, btw):D

PL,
What brand are you using? I've been tempted to try Corvalen myself. Having energy that lasts throughout the day and evening is my goal. After 6 p.m. I slump very quickly (darn hypothyroidism).

I'm using Jarrow Formulas, I found it at the Vitamin Shoppe. They had another brand, I don't know which one, but this one was cheaper. So far I haven't had any negative side effects which is unusual for me, so I am going to continue to take it. It does help when you want to get things done after dinner, usually I just want to sit and watch TV but I am actually getting things done around the house, again, unusual for me!!!

PL,
I've decided to do my own "personal study" using ribose 1 x per day starting tomorrow. Since I have good energy in the AM, my plan is to take a dose at Noon. Are you currently using 1 or 2 scoops per day?
I'll post later and let you know if it does in fact help with the energy factor. BTW, I think Vitamin Shoppe Online has the Jarrow Formulas brand on sale right now (not in the retail store).

I started with one scoop a day but added another one. I usually take one mid-morning and mid-afternoon. I did get a little jittery when I took it in the am with my coffee and had trouble falling asleep when I took it after dinner. You really have to experiment and see what works best for you.

I'm bumping this up .. there was an article in Women's World about the miracle of Ribose.
My Mom has a lot of the symptoms of fibro but was never officially diagnosed and decided to just live with it. She never sleeps well, has difficulty sleeping on her stomach even though it's her favorite way, chronic back pain, a shoulder injury, so on and so on.
She started to take the ribose twice a day, 1 tsp each and has been sleeping better, her swollen joints are not painful and swollen, she's sleeping on her stomach with her arms over her head when she couldn't before and overall her brain fog has lifted and she's thinking more clearly. She said she hasn't noticed a surge or energy or anything but thinking clearly has helped a lot with not feeling tired.
I started taking it yesterday for my back pain and other energy issues. We'll see what happens.

So I've been using Ribose for 3 days now and the normal "pain" I have when I restart T-Tapp is GREATLY diminished.
I'm sore but not feeling crippled like I would normally which is keeping me going on in my bootcamp.
I'm sleeping good, waking up refreshed, and I have energy even though I'm working longer hours, doing more, and exercising on top of it. I think some of it is T-Tapp but mostly I think it's the Ribose ..
I'm doing 2 tsps per day, one in the morning and one at night.

I've got some Ribose I ordered after reading the WW article. I also read it is good for fatigue. I haven't been taking it as I should. I will commit to start it tomorrow.

So glad this was posted. It's helping me so much, too. I add it to my prill water bottles (otherwise I tend to forget).
It also tastes good in beverages, hot or cold.

Personally I don't enjoy the taste, it's just strangely sweet but I put my teaspoon in an ounce of water and swirl it to chug it. I don't savor it in any way.

I stoppped taking it when I found out a I have stomach ulcer, but I think I will start taking it again when that clears up. I do seem to remember that if I took too much I would have stomach problems, then again it could have been the ulcer.
