I want to do some baking this year for gifts. What are some of your favorite things to bake to give to others as gifts [?] Thanks![^]

This is from the receiving end. I work in education and one of the co-op groups send baked goodies every year. mini loaves of any kind of bread like pumpkin, banana etc. This is always more popular than cookies etc.

Lemon blueberry bread is my absolute favorite! My DFriend and I get together first weekend in December and bake like crazy. We usually do the mini bread loaves and cookies that we freeze and bake as needed.

Hey There,

I LOVE Christmas cookies! Any kind - especially an italian one that is twisted with powdered sugar on top or the cookies that are shaped like christmas trees, candy canes, Angels, Santa, etc.

Good Luck!

I am doing quite a bit of baking this year, as usual.:D Some of my favorites are chocolate chip cookies, snickerdoodles, fudge, white chocolate macadamia nut cookies, sugar cookies, no bake cookies, gingerbread men, peanut butter cookies with chocolate kisses..etc...

i am also thinking of doing a few gift jars this year. That is when you layer the dry ingredients into a mason jar and attach the recipe and the person makes it themselves...saves time and looks really nice. i am making some of these for a friend of mine as well as a bean soup gift jar.

just some ideas, good luck and happy baking!:D

Anyone making cookies this season?

I usually avoid making them, but they are fun to give. I made coconut chocolate chip whole wheat cookies and gave them to my SIL and MIL for Thanksgiving.

I often get a small gift for co-workers, so a bag of cookies might do it this year. That's if I get motivated.

Last night I made Melting Moment cookies. I added ground almonds and used whole wheat flour. So fabulous. No eggs needed.

My childhood favorite is Mirro cookie press cookies. I still have the tattered recipie book. I should scan it and post it online. If I really get rolling, I'll make these.

I made browinies in a silicone muffin dish.

I had to spray the pan with non stick spray, but they came out ok. They looked fine in the ziploc baggie and I brought 2 dozen for Thanksgiving, we had them with vanilla ice cream.

I like to make brownies in a Bundt (ring) pan, especially to take to parties as a hostess gift or contribution to the dessert table. Everyone loves brownies, but they can be so hard to get out of a rectangular pan without crumbling! In a ring, they're easy to serve.

My almost 4 year old son loves to help with baking, so this year we're going to make a whole bunch of brownie rings and decorate them like Christmas wreaths. Should be fun... or at least less stressful than last year's attempt to make rolled and decorated butter cookies!

Great idea about the bundt pan, Summer. I'll have to try it.

Anyone baking is more than welcome to send those baked goods my way!;);) I love to bake, but if I bake it, than I eat it, which can be a problem. However, if it is a "gift" than it would just be rude not to eat it, so there are fewer calories.[8D]:D[8D]

Tina, they are butter cookies pressed thru an extruding plate, like bakery cookies. When I scan my book, I'll post a link, by next weekend. Hopefully I'll bake some soon!

here is one on ebay, look quick before it's gone!

I'd like to try that blueberry bread recipe too - sounds yummy! Also, apricot bread, cranberry walnut bread, carrot bread, puimpkin bread - these are all yummy and make lovely gifts when wrapped with colored cellophane and tucked in a basket with some gourmet tea bags or hot chocolate... DD and I buy cute baskets at summertime yardsales to put our homebaked goodies in. We always get lots of compliments. Candy-coated pretzels are time-consuming but delicious, and the jar mixes are fun as well. Gee.. I'm putting myself in the Christmas spirit here! Guess I'd better go buy some ingredients and start baking!:)

Okay, these aren't baked, but we have included it with baked goods before and given them to teachers.

Candy Cane Seeds
Paint a small clay pot and write Candy Cane Seeds on it.
Fill with red and white peppermints and wrap up in tulle or netting.
Attach a couple of candy canes with ribbon and a big bow.:D

So simple. One year a group a ladies made one for each adult employee at my kids elementary school. So many of those teachers etill bring them out every December and re-fill them. Easy enough for the kids to get involved with too.:)

I have done cajun pecans
they are spicy..d
one roasting pecans,
tossing in eggs whites that were beaten to soft peaks,
then tossed in cajun seasoning and sugar and a touch of salt
put back in a sloe oven to dry/glaze.
Yummy with cocktails, or alone

and
I give them to neighbors etc...filled in mason jars tied with ribbon

Last year I did gift bags with these,
and cookies made from the dough we bought as a fundraiser for our son's soccer team[:I]

TTAPP for myself and for my family.

I was just at AllRecipes.com and ran across this recipe. It is not a "baked" gift, but is a lovely gift to make and give during the holidays. It's a Friendship Soup Mix in a Jar. There's a picture on the link. It really is very pretty. I've been inspired by this thread to give something homemade to our neighbors and thought this would be a special and different treat.

I love to bake for the holidays! I always seem to eat some of the dough though. This year I'm going to have to stop periodically and do some HDs.

Our favorite thing to give (and eat:D) at Christmas is white chocolate covered pretzels. Melt the chocolate (we use almond bark, much cheaper!). Throw in a handful of pretzels,` and then remove them one at a time with a fork. Place on wax paper and sprinkle with red or green sprinkles. These are super easy, and great for kids to help with, and wonderfully delicious.

I have a supper easy fudge recipe that I make and put in little tins for people. It is the creamiest fudge ever.

1 - 1lb box of powdered sugar
2 eggs
1 - 12oz pkg of chocolate chips ( or peanut butter)
1 - stick of butter
1 tsp vanilla

Melt butter and chips together ( I use a double boiler) and while waiting for chips and butter to melt, beat the eggs into the powdered sugar together in a large bowl, when butter and chips are melted add to creamed mixture and mix well add vanilla and spread in 13 x9 buttered dish or smaller if you like thicker fudge. Let cool and cut. I omit the vanilla when I make peanut butter fudge. I also mix half chocolate chips and half peanut butter for chocolate-peanut butter fudge:D

PS this freezes really well.

ENJOY[:p]

HM. We have done this several years and have a slightly different assortment each time. I think our family favorites would include a candy cane shaped butter cookie flavored with almond extract, Mexican Wedding Cakes, iced gingerbread cutouts, a double layer fudge with candied cherries and slivered almonds, and a no-bake confection that includes marshmallows, coconut, graham crackers and dates (tasty, but kind of ugly. not too bad, though if you put the balls into mini-muffin cups. Several times, we have made baked caramel-nut popcorn, which is pretty good.

Last year, I came across a cheesecake cookie bar that seemed to be very popular popular.

This year, I would like to try biscotti, as it has kind of a special appeal.

Funny, I am usually a chocolate freak, but for some reason, my favorite seasonal cookies (to give or eat) don't seem to have much of that. Once, I dressed up basic fudge brownies with frosting and a dusting of crushed candy canes. Those are kind of pretty.

Mexmarr, I may have to try your pretzel dip! My husband just mentioned he likes those. After 15 years, it is funny the things we can still learn about each other:)

Aren't the Mirro Press cookies similar to spritz? I really like buttery, crunchy cookies this time of year.

Cranberry-Orange quick bread, along with a cranberry-orange sourdough bread, Stollen since it's a traditional bread only made at Christmas, and I've also done small loaves of 3 or 4 kinds of quick bread in small cellophane bags with ribbons. For friends with dogs I make Christmas cut-out dog biscuits. Baking is my favorite thing and so many people don't - who knew there's a box mix for quick breads?? They're so simple!
