View Full Version : Yeast Infection, Natural Cures?

Ladies, I'm truly hoping someone has information on natural cures used for vaginal yeast infections. It seems every month I deal with symtoms leading up to my period. As I become more informed, I would rather find a natural alternative to the monostat cream that I use every month.

I did do a search and turned up info on nail fungus. I searched the net and found a "natural cure" e book for sale for $30. Before I spring for that I thought I'd ask my Tapping Family what they've found!

Thanks for the help!

Yeast is nasty, nasty! [xx(][xx(]

First and foremost - diet - NO SUGAR, Fruit or yeast! Do a google search on candida/diet. Try Mercola.com and do a candida search there. Coconut oil, Threelac, Kefir & yogurt may help.

You can find most info by googling and search Amazon.com for books. You can get them used at a fraction of the cost.

When you do the research, you'll find there are many ways to attack the situation. Do what you feel comfortable with first.

Best wishes!

Wendy

Try picking up a copy of the January '07 issue of Natural Health magazine - four pages on short and long term methods.

Thanks Wendy!

Started Kefir about 2 months ago, and the symptom aren't as bad as they used to be. Just want to see what else is out there to avoid otc creams and prescriptions.

I second the candida research.

Often the best course is to elimiante all sugar (even fruit) from your diet and starve it out. Sure, this seems tough but you will be curing the disease and not just putting a bandaid on the symptoms.

Also
there is an oral pill...Diflucan...
it kills the yast carried in the blood stream. Sometimes you take one...sometimes you need a second pill at 30 days.

I did this and it stopped the problem.

I PM'd you some other thoughts...hope it helps

TTAPP for myself and for my family.

I'd have to agree with taking Diflucan. I had yeast infections for years, and probably spent hundreds of dollars on natural "cures" that didn't do anything but knock the symptoms back a little for a little while. One little Diflucan (covered by insurance) and it all went away.

The other alternative, is that what you have is not a yeast infection, but something with roughly the same symptoms. It may be time to get tested.

I had stubborn yeast infections for years. I finally read that the diflucan and the monostat continue the cycle of infection. Can't remember why. What finally helped me was a product called Flora-Balance. For some reason, my server wouldn't connect to www.flora-balance.com, but if you google it, you can find it. I took it for a good long time, but it worked wonders and I haven't had a yeast infection since and it's been years.

Another somewhat yucky thing I did (and it worked) that I read about on some website, was to soak a tampon in a mixture of tea tree and olive oils (I think maybe half and half -- I can't remember) and insert it for a short while. Tee tree oil is pretty strong so if you think this sounds like something you might try (clearly I was trying EVERYTHING), you should try to find the appropriate balance of the two.

the acid/alkaline balance of the body gets thrown off, & hormones complicate the situation. all the suggestions above fit the bill. as does nutrition/supplementation that helps the body's pH.

I've even used plain yogurt on the genitals and use as you would the Monistat. And eat lots of yogurt. It seems I always end up using the Monistat too. I used to get the infections more frequently, before I had a hysterectomy. I still get one or two per year, as opposed to every month. Hope you find a better way.

I rememember reading the article about the tampon: it was plain yogurt on the tampon with 2-3 drops of tea tree oil. I don't remember how long or how many days though.

I have the same issue but the situation has improved with the addition of probiotics. I wonder what product is better Threelac or the Flora-Balance?

I get them too before my period have one now it's awful! I visit my TCM doctor who gives me herbal tea and after 2 cups the yeast is gone thank GOD!! Unfortuntaly he is out of town now so I will wait until he gets back. When I use medicine from an M.D. it sometimes makes me worse I like natural better. I have insomnia which makes me vunerable to yeast each month. I hate the itchy sore hot feeling it's disgusting!! [xx(]

Hi Jill & Patricia. Would love to know what the name of the tea is and if it is available in Natural Food stores. I take the Garden of Life probiotic in addition to drinking kefir every day. I didn't catch this one soon enough with otc cream. Just want to see what remedies others use who have the same kind of issue.

I'm seriously considering doing a total body cleanse at this point. Never done it, and am looking into lots of info.

Have a great day!

Hi there,

I just wanted to chime in that I have tried both threelac and flora balance in the past. This is just my observation....

Flora balance worked wonderfully, but I was on a candida diet at the time, so I am sure that helped. The flora balance was a maintaince dose of 1 cap/per day.

Threelac is more a long term option. The makers of threelac stress that you do not need to be on a candida diet, but it will help. However, the threelac was something to take for 3-6 months at a therapeutic dose (3 pkts/day)in order to kill the yeast, then 1-2 pkts per day after that for maintenance.

I personally need to go back on a candida diet and start this regime again. It really helped. I have both of products in my cupboard, but #1 is to eliminate the sugar....

Vitamin A capsules. Just insert one or two capsules before bed time. Also, the plain yogurt on a tampon really works. You just cover the tampon with a lot of yogurt and insert. It really works. You can use the yogurt on your labia area also. Good luck.

old fasioned recipe that works:

get a pot of good water boiling, say 6 cups or more.

add 1-3C raw pumpkin seeds to the boiling water. wait til it boils again & simmer for about 20 minutes.

let cool.

strain out seeds, & drink as tea. you can grind the seeds before & use a coffee filter to strain, then blend the seeds into a smoothie.

keep movin'..the path shows up behind you...

I know this sounds crazy... but my Aunt gave me an article that says to apply Listerine to the burning/itching area. I initially thought it was a crazy idea but used it the last time I had an infection for the itch. It worked like a charm and it had a pleasant feel after application. It doesn't clear up the problem but sure cleared up the burning itch.

Wow! So many different remedies to try.....hopefully I won't need to try them all!! I found some homeopathic tablets call AZO and have started taking them. Did the otc cream cause it was so bad. Getting better now and I think I will go with some of these suggestions. Thanks so much for all of the advice!

grapefruit seed extract, the stuff is NASTY but it works. I took 15 drops a day for a couple weeks. Thing is, I had no symptoms, my applied knesiologist said she got bio-feedback that my body had yeast. Oh, I had to put the GSE in unsweetend cranberry juice just to be able to shoot it down [xx(]

Oil of oregano is something else you can use. Try 5 drops twice a day in a wee bit of juice shooter, chased by more juice. I give my kids Oil of oregano at the first sign of sickness too. DS/11 had some last night in fact and he was fine this morning.

Funny, now as I look around with the tips you wonderful ladies have been giving me, I'm finding more info on natural cures for this. I never gave a thought to what women did before otc & prescriptions. The natural things had to have worked, and I'm sure is much better for your body staying in balance.
