Hello!

My neurologist told me that the cartilage in my neck has worn away quite a bit, and that I need to be careful with any activity that would jerk my head suddenly. I posted a question about t-tapping on the general forum, but I decided to post on the nutrition forum, also.

Is there a supplement out there, besides glucosamine, to help maintain and/or rebuild cartilage?

Sandy

Are you using glucosamine AND Chondroitin?

Calorad (bovine collagen) claims to successfully rebuild cartilage. I have done well by it with regard to arthritis--as long as I take Calorad, I'm completely painfree. It even took care of my carpal tunnel problems. It's touted as a diet supplement, but it's been successfully used for arthritis/cartilage problems (even in pets). Pharmaceutical companies have been seeking FDA approval for medications that contain bovine or porcine collagen to treat arthritis because it's been found to shut off the mechanism that causes inflammation that destroys cartilage. If you decide to try it, it's sold by Essentially Yours, Inc.--just do a search for Calorad, and it'll come up. Don't order the Calorad that's made from fish--since you need it for building cartilage, you'll need the bovine type.

my DH swears by Flexanol. I just started taking it for my knee since I'm having issues with it from how my knee cap tilts 30 degrees.

Forget expensive supplements! Why not make a good bone broth, which will have all the cartilage, glucosamine and other goodies in a bioavailable form? It's so easy: take a whole chicken or saved up chicken parts, stick it in a crock pot with some carrots, celery and onions, pour in water and 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar. Put it on "low," and leave it cooking all day. By dinnertime you'll have a nice, nourishing broth, and you should drink a few bowls every day. Here's a good article on the health benefits:

It never ceases to amaze me the wonderful information you can find on this forum!!! [^] I too had been wondering about something to rebuild cartilage and now I know. Thanks.
There must be an awful lot of you out there that are very healthy eaters!! I am discovering it is very expensive to eat healthy and organic!! [V] Any suggestions how to cut costs. Thanks a bunch.

Here I go again, this time it will be a success!!!

Natural Factors has a really good GSA/CSA/MSM capsule combo that's been helping me. Also using Theramedix RPR (www.theramedix.net), & enzymes from Enzymedica are helping me A LOT (www.enzymedica.com).

keep movin'..the path shows up behind you...

What a GREAT thread! After I had double knee surgery for a torn meniscus in EACH KNEE[:0] my DH and I were at a street market. There was a lady there (who has a health food store) and I told her about my knees. She told me to take plain Knox gelatin 1 Tbsp. 3 times a day. She said if I had done this before my surgery and had Xrays done before I started the gelatin and then 6 months later, it would have fixed my problem[V] but have you ever tasted that stuff[xx(][xx(][xx(][xx(] but I need to try it again.

Also, she said to mix it in water or some juice but really, it was totally gross. I was taking a pill by Knox that contained Glucosamine(sp?) Chondroitin(sp?) MSM and gelatin and it worked WONDERS!
