I just saw an ad about this portable machine that blocks the nerve impulses to the brain and hence stops pain.

Does anyone know anything about this. Is it for real?

I'm not sure. I have used an electro-therapy unit that I rented from my chiropractor and someone told me they thought it was the same thing. You attach patches to the area you want to "treat", with wires attaching to the battery operated unit. Then you set the level of intensity you want and you feel an electric current which can relax your muscles. I used it when I had Shingles and it seemed to help the muscles underneath the outbreak to relax, as well as interrupt the pain and itch signals from the nerves due to the virus. Don't know if it's the same thing, but my chiropractor sells them for about $250. I wish I could afford to buy one!

If you could find a chiro. that rents them out, you could try it to see if it works for what you have in mind before buying.

Yes, they are for real.... Some of the preggo's have talked about these. They are also sometimes prescribed by Dr.'s for chronic pain, and covered by insurance.....

sounds like the pain therapy I had for tennis elbow, and it worked~!! I only needed 4 sessions. This was a bigger machine though. And it was like um, ultrasound? medium sized suction cups were attached to my arm in two places I think.

I used mine for labor and it worked beautifully!!! I actually had to turn it off because I couldn't figure out when to push (this was baby #3, so I do know about pushing, just couldn't feel it this time around).

Check out www.bodyclock.net. Hope that link is correct. I got the top-of-the-line model for labor, and it cost me about $175 including some extras and overseas shipping. I didn't need a prescription for it, either, though I'd discuss its use with a physician, obviously. I ended up getting mine in less than a week from England, and after I was done, I sold it to my sister (a doula) for almost what I paid for it. Great investment!!!

I got one when I was going to physical therapy for my neck and shoulder, and yes, they do work.
It was a little over $800.00 for the unit, but my insurance covered it all but $85.00. It has been well worth it.

I just found out that my link (in the message above) is wrong. I'll find the new one and correct it.

ETA - The real link is www.bodyclock.net, not .com.
