My dear 18 year old cousin and I went shopping today. I noticed she was chomping away on a piece of gum. A little while later, the chomping/bubble popping stopped while I was driving. I asked her "you didn't swallow your gum did you", and she said "Ya. I've done it my whole life." She probably chews a couple packs/month she said. [B)]
Everyone knows that swallowing your gum is bad, but does anyone know exactly what happens if you do it as much as she does? I need some facts to present to her, otherwise it will go in one ear and out the other.

Hope this gives you some information. However, does not appear to cause harm.

Maybe we could get Lizzy Joy on the Colonix thread to swallow some gum and see what she finds the next day during one of her investigations...;);)

Lol Ally. I really suspected that she was damaging her colon by swallowing so much and for so many years.
Thanks for the Snopes 411 Renee.

Ha Ally! I'm doing colonix too and I seriously found some gum in there--florescent green too! Now, I haven't swallowed gum for quite a while so who nows how long that was in there. However, I must also say that I don't think it would damage your colon--I believe it would just sit in the intestines for a while but I don't think it would cause harm.
But that's just me....

[:I] I'm a gum swallower too. I'm 45 and I've never seen any ill effect from it. I tend to eat it like chewy candy. I don't chew it for very long.
And better to swallow it than find someone's old nasty wad of gun stuck the bottom of the garbage can, under a desk or table or on the bottom of my shoes. :D[:p]:D[:p]

I have never been a gum swallower. I think it's because when I was a kid, my aunt's little dog swallowed some gum and I watched her pull it out of the dog's bottom. It was really gross and my aunt wanted us to watch so we wouldn't be tempted to swallow gum or let the dog have gum again. :(

Well, you know how kids are, they won't stop doing something just because you tell them. My cousin and I were terrible about giving gum to my aunt's dog. The dog really loved it and we couldn't see any harm in giving it to him, until, of course, the gross demo! [:I]
